A group of over 50 Principals and Administrators of Chabad schools from United States and Canada convened on a conference call this past Sunday.
They discussed how to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Hei Teves in a meaningful way for all the schools and how to provide Lubavitch students with an understanding of how important this Yom Tov is for Chassidim.
The conference call was coordinated by Vaad Or v’Chom Hahiskashrus and was addressed by Rabbi Avrohom Sternberg of Connecticut, Rabbi Yosef Minkowitz from Montreal and Rabbi Yitzchok Wolf of Chicago.
Shluchim and Mechanchim had a broad ranging discussion and various ideas and suggestions were raised, COLlive was told by organizers.
A central component of this educational effort is the compilation of a new curriculum being prepared for the schools, based on the Rebbe’s sichos regarding this central episode of Dor Hashvi’i.
The goal of these lesson plans is to provide a comprehensive and age-appropriate description of this Yom Tov for young Chabad children. A special, animated video for children is in production as well.
“It was a most refreshing conversation,” said Rabbi Avrohom Wolowik>, Executive Director of Cheder Chabad of Baltimore. “I now have a much better understanding of the importance of properly teaching the meaning of Hei Teves to our students especially of the generation after 3 Tamuz.”
“We plan on introducing this year’s Hei Teves celebrations in the same manner as we celebrate Yud Tes Kislev, including a school-wide Yom Tov se’udah, with students wearing Yom Tov clothing,” said Rabbi Wolf, Dean of Cheder Lubavitch in Chicago.
“We hope this will instill in our talmidim a real sense of the importance of this day and the celebratory nature it deserves,” he concluded.
This educational initiative within school network is part of a larger series of programs and initiatives coordinated by Vaad Or v’Chom Hahiskashrus in preparation for global celebrations of Hei Teves Shloshim Shono.
