President Joe Biden took a few moments to thank Rabbi Zalman Lipskar and several other Florida Shluchim present during his visit to survey the site of the collapsed Champlain condominium tower in Surfside, FL on Thursday.
After speaking with first responders and those leading the search efforts at the site of the disaster, Biden attended an event to help console the families of the victims and survivors of the horrific events of last week. He also met with first responders and others involved in the humanitarian efforts there to offer strength and support.
In addition to Rabbi Lipskar, President Biden also spoke with Rabbi Schneur Oirechman of Tallahassee, Rabbi Yaakov Fellig of Coconut Grove, and Rabbi Yossi Harlig of Kendall, who is also an official Miami-Dade County chaplain. He then sent regards to his good friends in Washington, Rabbi Abraham Shemtov and Levi Shemtov of American Friends of Lubavitch (Chabad) in Washington, DC. Also present were representatives from Chesed Shel Emes of Florida.
He encouraged the Shluchim to continue their efforts and offered consolation for those lost.
The Shluchim were also able to meet and discuss the situation with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and his wife, Ann Scott, and Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and his wife, Jeanette Rubio and the local mayors.
