The suspect in last month’s shooting at a synagogue in Poway, California, now faces more than a hundred federal civil rights and hate crime charges, according to federal prosecutors.
On Thursday, US Attorney for the Southern District of California Robert Brewer said prosecutors filed a new criminal complaint against 19-year-old John T. Earnest.
Earnest is accused of carrying out the deadly shooting at the Chabad of Poway synagogue that killed 60-year-old Lori Gilbert Kaye and injured three others, including the rabbi and and 8-year-old girl. He is also suspected of arson at a mosque in nearby Escondido in late March.
“Our actions today are inspired by our desire to achieve justice for all of the victims and their families,” Brewer said at a news conference.
The new criminal complaint charges Earnest with 109 new counts — including 54 counts of obstruction of free exercise of religious beliefs resulting in death and bodily injury and involving the attempt to kill, Brewer said.
“That’s one count for every person in the synagogue on April 27, including 12 children,” Brewer said, adding that each of the counts is “death penalty-eligible.”
Earnest faces an additional 54 hate crime counts for each person in the synagogue, and another charge of damage to religious property in connection with the case of arson at the Escondido mosque.
Unfortunately, there are others out there who should be stopped in their tracks. Website owners who promote anti semitism should be prosecuted and social media should be censored with heavy fines.
On YWN – an article about a neo nazi near Lakewood threatening with many knives and swords (picture) against the Yidden in Lakewood חס ושלום. Was any thing done about it? In Florida one was arrested for making threatening phone calls. Not to mention all the verbal and physical attacks lately.
If we start prosecuting sites for ‘hate’, then someone from the alternative “marriage” group will want sites like this shut down as so called ‘hate’ sites, because Torah does not condone their ‘lifestyle’.
Its about incitement to terrorize
Promoting antisemitism is not and cannot be a crime, and censorship is strictly forbidden. This is the fundamental basis of the USA’s existence; if you don’t like it go live in Russia or China.
The person near Lakewood has not threatened anybody or done anything wrong. He has every right to own weapons, and to speak however he likes. He does not have to like Jews. So long as he doesn’t do anything wrong, it would be a terrible crime to harass him or to arrest him.
EXECUTE THE SCUMBAG MURDERER ASAP.
PROSECUTORS NEED TO SEND OUT A STRONG MESSAGE TO ALL ANTI SEMITES WHO WISH TO HARM US C’V, THAT THIS WILL BE THEIR END!!
THOSE LONE WOLVES OR GANGS NEED TO KNOW THAT IT DOES NOT PAY!!!!!
NO HOTEL LIFE CALLED PRISON BUT PUNISHMENT WHICH WILL SCARE THE
DAYLIGHTS OUT OF THEM.
Incarceration is not one of the punishments enumerated in the Torah for such crimes. Stoning, burning, decapitation, and strangulation. The prison system is extremely flawed and breeds hardened criminals. No one magically metamorphoses into a law abiding citizen after a stint in prison. It drains millions from the government (-taxpayers money) to sustain and support criminals. Let’s reform the system. A criminal should be faced with either monetary compensation, or (for such crimes) capital punishment.
