The special day of Rosh Chodesh Kislev was marked with much celebration at the Mestiva of Postville in Iowa this week.
On that day, in 1977, the Rebbe was well enough to go home after suffering a major heart attack five weeks earlier on the eve of Shemini Atzeres. Chassidim all over rejoiced at the good news that signaled his recovery.
From that day on, Chabad.org notes, the Rebbe redoubled his efforts on behalf of the Jewish nation and all of humanity, and for the dissemination of Torah and chassidism. From then on, the first of Kislev is celebrated as a day of thanksgiving and rejoicing.
The celebration in Postville this year opened with a festive meal Chaim Susketuv and Shmuel Reinhold.
The Yeshiva’s Mashpia Rabbi Gavriel Levin spoke about the relevance of Rosh Chodesh Kislev to the bochurim, while Hatomim Hashliach Levi Brochshtat retold the story with all its details.
A new Mivtzah Rambam was announced to the bochurim, encouraging them to partake in the daily study instituted by the Rebbe.
A video presentation followed this; niggunim were sung, and then Haomim Hashliach Yitzchak Lewin spoke about the shlichus of a bochur, ending with a story about Hashgacha Protis by Yossi Issac.
