Packages in Crown Heights have a quick delivery…
Jewish homeowner Faitel Levin was shocked to learn how swiftly and unceremoniously crime can hit close to home this week.
On Monday morning at 11:48 am, the U.S. postal service dropped off a package at his home on Crown Street. By the time residents of the home walked outside to take in the mail, it was already gone.
“It was there for exactly 7 minutes,” Levin told COLlive.com.
Security footage has captured an African American male walking down the street with a garbage bag, walking up the steps of Levin’s residence and taking the package before running away.
When Levin realized the package had been stolen, he contacted Shomrim volunteers who notified him that they have other footage of this man stealing packages throughout the neighborhood. According to Shomrim, the man lives in Crown Heights and they are aware of his address.
“They say they know this individual, he has done this numerous times but he has not been arrested,” Levin said.
Levin said he went down to the 71st Precinct and showed them the surveillance video of the theft. The man has yet to be arrested.
Police Officer Vinny Martinos told COLlive: “The detective squad is doing an investigation, and we have good leads. But there is still more work needed to make sure the case is good enough for the District Attorney to prosecute. I’m sure there will be an arrest made soon.”
It used to be a federal offense to tamper with or steal mail. That is not just some minor offense. We have bedn complaining for years, both when we lived in the 11225 zip code area, and now in the 11213 area, that the postmen don’t bother to ring the bell. Those who just drop off packages without making an attempt to notify the people inside should be prosecuted as accomplices if the package is stolen. If it isn’t stolen they should be reprimanded/demoted/disciplined
When I lived in the back of an apt building the deliverymen didn’t even bring packages to our door , they just dropped it in the lobby which we don’t even walk through! What a way to loose a package!
Packages get stolen from apt building lobby’s minutes after they r delivered. My super caught a guy stealing my laptop which was just delivered, I had Walmart shipments stolen… Someone must stop it or else no mail will be safe in crown heights!
I ordered from Amazon in March , I tracked it and it said “DELIVERED ” I never got it so I called them and they said they we received it :0 I never got it maybe….. THE SAME IDIOT MAN STOLE MYN!
The ups guy probably dropped it off and then his shift was finished so he ran somewhere and changed and then stole it bc he knew where it was and that it was something valuable!
The police are not looking at just this guy. They’re looking at the bigger network that might include drivers – allegedly.
So if they read this did we just ruin it ?
The postal guy was holding two packages. Put one on your porch continued towards NY Ave – the direction the thief came from – with a box already in his “garbage” bag. Seems like these two must be working in cahoots. He couldn’t have been following the truck bec he was walking in the opposite direction. He knew where to meet the deliveries.
Good luck. Happened to us a few times. Also CH. missing packages were UPS delivered.
Homowner, the uniformed proudsters are not the culprit as their loud presence is nothing but frontsters trained to follow orders. I doubt police-men actually possess free will. Hiding behind the Great Blue foot-pawns, a darker danger lurks behind the scenes. Its those hiding behind the veil of an office desk who executes orders to his police-men who are glad to serve up for the reward of attention, recognition. The top brass cleverly keep out of site. THEY are the problem, not the loud rookies.
These inferior policemen are in fact powerless to help you.
Out of all the driving companys the post office has the laziest drivers
I don’t think that the package placed on the bench is even visible from the sidewalk – very clearly working as a team.
So I called police this morning they came pretty fast they just took a report, than I went to the station and showed the video to the detective, I also sent it to shomrim, it is my understanding that they know who the guy is, they have his name address , why they do not arrest him is a mystery , maybe they are busy giving tickets in crown heights,
99.9% they are working together
the other 0.1% of possibilities I give it as a tip
Time US PS claimed to have delivered a package and I had to go to the post office I called Amazon and told them under no circumstances should they deliver US PS they should only send UPS. They have only delivered my packages UPS since thank G-d.
we had the same problem in my area so we had put FAKE amazon boxes with packaging material and a tracker inside the box and the thieves were caught in a very short amount of time. Just put the bait out there and the fish will bite in no time.
Lesson 1: You dump down an assignment to your worker. Now your mad he didn’t do “his” job. Ah, now you learned that it was YOUR responsability’s neglect, next time wait for a confirmation from your employee acknowledging acceptance of your assignment. “But I notified him at his door step” is not a good excuse. “But I instructed an email” is no excuse. Unless you obtained the recipients acknowledgement, it remains YOUR problem, shoyteh. Lesson2: maybe that Groupon steal comes back to steal it back. Next time settle for something less enticing than those JCrew pink shoes from Amazon and… Read more »
USPS is responsible for not knocking. But even if no one’s home, can they just leave it there? I live in Australia, and if no one’s home, they’ll leave a card with info and then you need to pick it up from the post office; unless the package says on it to leave it by the door.
Make a stink with the usps!! It’s sick, he didn’t even ring bell
What is this ???
he should have rang the bell at least
that just so messed up
The postman definitely seems to be putting the package down in a way that will alert the thief to come and take it. And he doesnt ring the bell. Looks very suspicious to me.
Why is the post office delivery person putting outside the door where everyone can see it? That is very irresponsible of them!
Davening that they catch this guy and get back what a stole
Happens allbthe time.
Usps sucks. The location on St. johns always has a line to the door of ppl. Waiting for packages that where ‘delivered’ (stolen?) or attempted to be delivered….
I have contacted amazon three times regarding this
They claim it was passed on to supervisor
Attach to your camera and shoot when he grabs
one less thief and more peace
I think this guy follows the usps truck. Or maybe the usps guy directs the theif and they split the loot.
The post man and thief probably work together!
The postman and the thief working together.
the postman didn’t even pretend to ring the bell……
i would say that the postman splits the booty with the robber and there for he dosnt ring the bell so his buddy can come by and collect it
This has happened twice in our building. Camera recorded, cops were called. They don’t take it serious. It’s become an epidemic now in Crown Heights lately. How do we get the police to crack down?
why do you have recording features on your home video camera if the resolution is useless???
2. The usps employee clearly did not even bother ringing the bell and should be reprimanded (the last time a postal employee lost his job for incompetence was in 1883.)
“They say they know this individual, he has done this numerous times but he has not been arrested,” Levin said.
If Shmira/Shomrin know this guy why is he still walking around and stealing stuff???
He is doing his job but the cops are not.
I would check first to see if anybody is home rather than just leave the package on the front
is he the same person stealing from 556 Crown St?
I hope they catch the guy and retrieve your package
Some “people” see what they want and just take it! “It’s not mine” doesn’t enter their mind …..
The guy didn’t even ring the bell
at my place they just leave tickets that no one was home-NO ONE RANG and WE WERE ALL HOME
