Three hundred people gathered in Porto Alegre, Brazil to welcome a new Torah.
It is the first time in Porto Alegre that an entire Torah was donated by a single family.
The event, held in Beit Lubavitch of Porto Alegre, was a great kiddush Hashem.
After the last few letters were completed by sofer Rabbi Shmuel Binjamini, Rabbi Mendel Liberow, head-shliach to the state of Rio Grande do Sul explained the importance of this event in continuing the chain of tradition of the Jewish people, especially as the Torah was donated to honor the memory of the parents of the donor.
Also in attendance was the mayor of Porto Alegre and the state’s Secretary of Culture, who also said a few words in admiration of the Jewish nation’s dedication to its traditions.
After finishing writing the last letters of the Torah, it was carried out to the street where a great crowd sang and danced, celebrating with the Torah.
Finally, friends and family took part in a Seudas Mitzvah where the donors were presented with a small replica of the real Torah which they just donated.
