The news that the NCFJE organization won the long and difficult battle with antagonists of Kaparos has paved the way for the ancient Jewish custom to once again be held in Crown Heights.
With the legal challenge being cleared, NCFJE is promising to make Kaparos not only available and convenient, but also as inexpensive as possible.
As reported on COLlive.com, the Crown Heights Kaparos for Yom Kippur 5777 will be held this Sunday, 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm at the parking lot of Bais Rivkah High School, with the entrance on Montgomery Street between New York and Nostrand Avenues.
Organizers said the $5 price per chicken was the lowest rate for Kaparos in New York City.
Additional support to have Kaparos subsidized was granted by businessman and philanthropist Yossi Popack in a phone call with Rabbi Shea Hecht, Chairman of the NCFJE.
“Mr. Popack told us that because our Kaporos is designed to help the people of Crown Heights and the orchim that come for Tishrei to Crown Heights, he will help ensure the price of the chickens remains at $5,” Hecht’s son JJ Hecht reported.
NCFJE thanks Mr. Popack for his generous donation, joining previous donors. They also thanked Rabbi Benjy Stock and Rabbi Tzvi Fass of Bais Rivkah for enabling them to make this arrangement possible.
In order to ensure that Kaparos this year is smooth and hassle-free, NCFJE has ordered a greater number of chickens than in past years.
