During Aseres Yemei Teshuvah, Our Sages advise us to pay special attention on Teshuva, Tefilla and Tzedakah, to be more careful in observance of mitzvos to seek hidurim in appropriate fashion and to spend time in introspection in order to “return” and achieve the greater potential of our neshamos.
What better way to increase our zechusim during the 10 days of Teshuvah than by showing love and care for our fellow Jews.
In Crown Heights we have a very special opportunity to show our care and hospitality not only to our friends and families but also to many hundreds and thousands of orchim who travel to Crown Heights to be in the shadows of 770, the home of our Rebbe zy”a and to absorb and to participate in the strong sense of spiritual invigoration which we find in Crown Heights.
Everybody does something on behalf of the orchim. But there are a few very special people in Crown Heights who over the years have made a very special effort to do very special things for the guests that arrive in Crown Heights for the month of Tishrei.
One of our most respected and prosperous Real Estate developers and landlords, businessman, Yossi and Batsheva Popack, have always shown care and helped in finding places or orchim to stay and providing food for their meals. More recently they have joined together with the National Committee for Furtherance of Jewish Education (NCFJE) in a special effort to provide kaporos at a reasonable price, not only for the residents of Crown Heights but also for all the orchim.
Rabbi Sholem B. Hecht, Chairman Executive Committee of NCFJE, announced that Yossi Popack agreed to share the mitzvah and made a commitment to help the orchim get Kapores at a reasonable price of $10 a chicken on Erev Yom Kippur.
“This is truly a great z’chus for Yossi and Batsheva Popack,” said Hecht. “In z’chus of this tzedakah we pray that the prayers and supplications of all the members of our community will join together before the Throne of Glory and the Al-mighty on this Yom Kippur and will bring the merit to them for a G’mar Chasima Tovah!”

Thank you Mr. Popack and to the other sponsor who lowered the price of the chickens. We are really struggling and your gesture lifted the burden somewhat. Thank you.
They will be eaten
You have a good point!
Good to see Binyomin Schapiro – GCT
I spot shmully Hecht
I’m against the Peta mishugoyim and all, but we certainly can treat the chickens better. It was extremely hot and humid outside and when i lifted the chickens, they were literally extremely sweaty! They should give the chickens water or at the very least hose them down. If it cost an extra $300 to do that, tack on a 25 cent surcharge to the price. To be outdoors for so many hours crowded in a boiling crate is torturous. If we designate them as our kappara and shecht them, at least we should make their final moments leading up to… Read more »
