Crown Heights proprietor and and donor Yossi Popack is making a special donation to sponsor kapparos, COLlive has learned.
Popack’s gift will reduce the cost of kapparos to $10 for kolel yungerleit and guests, tonight, the evening before Yom Kippur. Chickens will be available from NCFJE, 824 Eastern Parkway.
NCFJE offers deeply discounted kapparos, but those discounts are usually restricted to Crown Heights residents, and discounts are generally not available on erev Yom Kippur. Hundreds of Crown Heights residents enjoyed subsidized Kaparos on Sunday afternoon, paying only $5 for chickens. Popack’s gift will allow both orchim and yungerleit to enjoy discounted kapparos tonight as well.
“Yossi is the kind of person that is sensitive to everyone’s needs, said NCFJE Chairman Rabbi Shea Hecht. “We had offered discounted kapparos for residents, but he didn’t like to see the orchim left out.”
Kapparos chickens will be kashered and donated to the orchim.
Of extending the discount to kolel yungerleit, Hecht said, “[They] want to do kapparos in a mehudardike way, and he respects that.
“Yossi Popack is the type of person that honestly cares for all anash,” he said, “orchim, kolel yungerleit and all of us really owe him our deep appreciation and respect.”
Kapporos will take place tonight at 824 Eastern Parkway, beginning at 6:00 pm. $10 for kollel yungerleit and guests, $13 regular price. Shechita begins at 10:00 pm
Mr P we need your subsidies in anash communities even outside CH. Can this be arranged thru Shea Hecht as well?
Kapporos at 310 Crown Street is from 10-2
thank u very much mr. popack
Thank you Mr P for this!Thank you to Rabbi Shea and NCFJE for constantly trying to ease our burdens.Every chessed helps.
May your mosad and all the other Rebbes mosdos have an easier year.A gut yohr to all klal yisroel
To #7, you said it right. We need to get rid of the entitlement mentality. BTW, I’m sure if someone local is genuinely in a bad way financially, the Hechts will have no problem giving Kaporos at a discount even tonight. They are decent, generous people.
Thank you for this kind donation. I’m arriving in crown heights in the middle of the night, could someone explain my options/ the process for kapparos
people that serve the community?
like Shomrim
Hatzalah members etc?
in montgomery s parking lot at 10pm
what time does kaporos start on crown st tonight-any1 know?
It’s not fair that nobody is paying for your shabbos food either, right?
Mr. Popack is giving as CHARITY towards the NCFJE the difference between full price and $10, to whom he chooses to award that subsidy. A subsidy is charity and if you don’t like it, call up another gvir and maybe he will be willing to subsidize whoever doesn’t fall into the above subsidy’s criteria.
I hate entitlement mentality, and just BTW, I’m in poverty myself, yet I don’t feel ‘entitled’ to any help, but whenever I do receive help, I most certainly appreciate it. HUGE difference.
Not right that CH residents who also want to shlug kappores in muhudarike way have to pay full price tonight! Discrimination!!!
is this price for bochurim as well?
Very nice gesture.
He carries many zechusim.
from a kollel family
