Monday morning found police officers striding through the hallways of Queens Yeshiva, in a wonderful display of community outreach and partnership, to become acquainted and familiar with the culture and customs of the Yeshiva community.
Every so often the precinct gets new officers, and, as part of their training, they are taken around to visit, get to know and learn about the larger community in order to help them interact with them in the future.
Since the Yeshiva did the Chanukah parade together with the NYPD this past year, the head of community affairs – Miss Gigi, asked if she can bring a group of officers to Yeshiva.
The officers came and got a tour of the building, they even had the zechus to watch the bochurim in action – learning in Zal.
They then sat with the Menahel Rabbi Scharf, who explained to them about Chabad in general, and how the Yeshiva is the training for the bochurim to be able to go out on shlichus.
They also discussed the Yeshiva’s involvement with the community, which includes Friday Mivtzoim, Tahalucha on Shabbos afternoon, Yom tov Mivtzoim etc.
It was interesting for them to hear about the Yeshiva, how the boys learn in school the entire day and board there as well and the ratio of 14 staff members for 70 students.
The officers were very impressed and appreciative of the learning opportunity that was given to them.
As officer Maser said: “This was a great public relations encounter, we look forward to meet again for good occasions!”
The Yeshiva thanks the police department for being so supportive of the Yeshiva and the Jewish community in general and looks forward to a continued strong relationship.
Rabbi Sharf is doing such a wonderful job as Menahel of the Yeshiva, it’s amazing to see how they have such a great affect on the community that the NYPD feel the need to speak to them before bringing new officers there.
May they grow from strength to strength, bringing much Nachas to the Rebbe
They almost probably did, at least one of the bachurim. I love Queens yeshiva!

We should teach them ‘The 7 Noahide Laws.’ This is the ‘ratzon’ of ‘The Rebbe, MH”M’
I started a class in these laws in Crown Heights, Bklyn. NY
