The first anniversary of the deadliest attack on Jews in U.S. history is being marked today in Pennsylvania and around the world.
11 people were killed and 7 others wounded in the brutal shooting attack one year ago on October 27, 2018, at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.
Numerous memorials and events are planned in Pittsburgh and in Jewish communities around the world, and hundreds of people of all walks of life have been flocking to the site of the shooting to mark the anniversary.
Anthony Feinberg, son of victim Joyce Feinberg, has set up a “Mitzvah Table” at the Synagogue, and has requested that Chabad of Pittsburgh run the Tefillin stand, which welcomed those who wished to do a Mitzvah in memory of the victims.
Among those who donned Tefillin at the booth were Jonathan Greenblat, head of the ADL, and Dani Dayan, the Consul General of Israel, who were in town for the commemorations.
Many in attendance were eager to do a Mitzvah in honor of those who perished.
“While typically on mivtzoim you need to approach people and convince them to put on tefillin, today people from all walks of life were approaching us us to help them do a mitzva in memory of the 11 kedoshim,” Rabbi Chezky Rosenfeld told COLlive.
