Do u put tefilin on a meshumad? Or does he 1st have to do something to renounce or change his status? Whats halacha?
Tinok shenishba more likely. So yes, definitely put tefillin on him! (Reminds me of R’ hutner asking the rebbe how you could put tefillin on someone who doesn’t understand what’s in the tefillin – the Rebbe said by the time you finish explaining, the yid already left)
He is a Jew, regardless, but he does have to make serious Tshuvah. Perhaps laying tefillin will be a step in that direction. This is the Chabad way.
He is still considered a jew even though he is a meshumad. however the rebbe did want bob dylan who came to chabad and was involved with christianity previously to go to mikveh which bob dylan did at the time. This info was in a collive video not long ago
