You’re right, to someone who is not used to this, this sort of activity does seem to be deserving of the description you gave. However, it’s a part of overnight camp, almost expected, and everyone (or at least almost everyone) knows that it’s all in good spirit, to have some fun, and to serve as a “gentle” reminder. I remember the first time i went to overnight camp, years ago, my parents did not yet know the system, and had no clue that you’re supposed to tip counselors and waiters on visiting day.
Waiters work very hard and deserve to be compensated, no doubt. But such blatant begging?! Please, where is your dignity, your self-respect? Can’t you think up another way to solicit tips, in a more subtle and discreet fashion? Please be more creative and don’t resort to an outright broadcast of your base emotions!
