What do you get when you put a Lubavitch bochur, dressed in traditional Indian clothing and holding a Shofar in front of the five-star hotel Taj Mahal Palace & Tower in Mumbai?
A Shana Tova photo.
Moishy Korf and his brother Zalman Korf, both of Brooklyn’s Crown Heights section, staged a photo shoot in India’s capital Monday for a Rosh Hashana greeting to be sent to their friends and family.
For the past two weeks the two manned the Chabad House of Mumbai, at its undisclosed location, until Rabbi Chanoch Gechtman and his wife Leiky returned this week in time for the High Holidays.
For the photo, Moishy dressed in Kurta clothing and a Pagri hat, while his brother stood behind the camera.
“We had Indians, Muslims, tourists, beggars, police and panhandlers gathering to take photos of us,” Moishy Korf told COLlive.com. “One of the onlookers were an Israeli couple whom we invited to Rosh Hashana davening and meals.’
The location of the photo – the Taj hotel – was especially chosen as one of the targets of the 2008 terror attacks. Shliach Rabbi Gabi Holtzberg, his wife Rivky and Jewish visitors were murdered as well.
Written in four languages, the New Year greeting was sent Tuesday to all friends and visitors of Chabad Mumbai.
