As the High Holidays approach, Jerusalem’s Chief Rabbi and former Chief Rabbi of Israel Shlomo Amar will virtually join a midnight pre-High Holidays Selichos service for the Jewish community in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday/Friday, Sep. 3-4.
“This is an historic occasion, as for the first time, a leading Israeli rabbi will join the Emirati Jews in prayer,” said Rabbi Levi Duchman, rabbi of the Jewish community of the UAE and the only rabbi residing in the country.
“This event truly demonstrates the visionary leadership of Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, whose groundbreaking Abraham Accords and ongoing support for the Emirati Jewish community enabled this unique prayer service,” the rabbi stated.
The midnight selichot service will be preceded by a community dinner at the JCC, as well as a Torah class and inspirational song session. Strict Covid-19 protocols including mask usage and other measures will be followed.
The collaboration between the Israeli-based Rabbi Amar and Dubai’s Jewish community is yet another milestone being marked.
Earlier this week, Rabbi Duchman the Solly Wolf, President of the Dubai JCC, led a Shachris service for Israel’s first official delegation to the UAE to discuss the Abraham Accords.
