Parsha Studio: Special Edition Pesach ~ Overflowing Kiddush Cup
Hi Boys and Girls!
Welcome back to the Parsha Studio!
On Pesach, we commemorate the great miracle that Hashem performed for the Yidden. He took them out of slavery, from a place where escape seemed impossible. Then, He split the sea for the Yidden to save them from the Mitzriyim that were chasing after them! One of the ways we show our appreciation for the miracles is by drinking four cups of wine at the Pesach Seder. These four cups represent the four stages of Geulah, Vehotzaisi, Vehitzalti, Vigoalti, Vilokachti. We drink a 5th cup for the final Geulah of Moshiach, called Viheiveisi.
Today, we will conduct a science experiment that involves creating an overflowing kiddush cup. To do this, we will need hydrogen peroxide, dish soap, and yeast. The reaction between these three components will create foam, which is an exothermic reaction. An exothermic reaction is a chemical reaction that releases energy in the form of light or heat. The foam created by the reaction will be filled with oxygen, with each tiny bubble containing oxygen. The yeast acts as a catalyst or a helper, which removes the oxygen from the hydrogen peroxide very quickly, resulting in the creation of lots and lots of bubbles, and in this case an overflowing Kiddush cup J
