A brazen thief was caught on camera, walking off with a package from a home’s front porch in Crown Heights in broad daylight on Thursday morning.
On security footage sent to COLlive, the thief can be seen walking up to the home in Crown Heights, swiping a package from the stoop and calmly walking off.
The incident occurred at 8:05 am, the homeowner notified COLlive. He did file a report with the police.
COLlive reached out to Detective Vinny Martinos of the 71st Precinct in Crown Heights last April, about the troubling trend seen more and more often in the neighborhood.
“This is the number one crime we are dealing with now,” Martinos told COLlive. “We keep identifying and catching these guys and locking them up, but most criminals are opportunists. If they see a package and no one is around, they will strike,” he said.
“The problem is that people don’t always follow up to prosecute, since the companies pay back the customer, and they don’t lose out, so they don’t follow up with pressing charges. And the big companies don’t really care so much about it.
“We recommend that you contact the police and press charges if you are a victim of theft, because if you don’t, it’s like it never happened,” he said.

If the faces of these thieves were PROMINENTLY plastered ALL OVER the neighborhood with a nominal cash reward offered for a tip-off of their location there’s a chance they’d soon be arrested. NOTE TO POTENTIAL PACKAGE RECIPIENTS: if your… Read more »
You live in the jungle. Put a large sign dog on premises or gun owner sign from NRA or ADT alarm sign. Otherwise only solution is hire neighborhood guards like in S. Africa. I bet if you get 20 families to pay 30$ a month you get a strong person with a crow bar to do rounds a few times a day.

I saw a video of one of these “ package thieves” played on Channel 12 ( local Brooklyn news ). Offer a small reward & I am sure someone will turn them in.
How can you press charges, as the detective says, if the police don’t bother going after the criminal?
U need a glitter bomb
agree to put photo around crown heights and in all other media and news . and inside the shelters /other city buildings an for a small reward their friends will turn them in …
Put this thieving woman’s photo in The New York Post, and Daily News, to maybe deter them. This is happenening much to often.
Maybe she’ll be embarrassed being seen by “her kind” as a thief.
The cops are to busy, trying to give tickets instead of catching criminals, and our representatives are busy in restaurants taking pictures with anybody just to take advantage for themselves
swiping packages 📦 anywhere & everywhere he went. Probably got a fairly nice size, profitable haul by the end of his ‘shopping’ excursion!
