As a member of the Crown Heights Jewish community, I am concerned about the recent spate of package theft that has occurred over the past couple of weeks. These crimes, which have caused significant inconvenience and financial hardship for the victims, must be brought to an immediate end.
But how can we address this issue and protect ourselves and our communities from package theft? One effective strategy is the installation of security cameras, which can deter potential thieves and provide valuable evidence in the event of a crime. Utilizing package delivery lockers can also offer a secure location for packages to be delivered, rather than being left vulnerable on one’s doorstep. Additionally, simply being more mindful of when packages are set to be delivered can help prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.
As I consider the root causes of this problem, I can’t help but wonder if a lack of morality is to blame. Perhaps our schools should be doing more to teach children about the importance of honesty and integrity. After all, it is through education that we can instill strong values in our youth and help prevent crimes like package theft from occurring.
It is also essential for community members to report any suspicious activity to the authorities. If a package thief is witnessed in the act, it is crucial to immediately call Crown Heights Shmira at 718-221-0303 or 911. By working together and being vigilant, we can help to put an end to this problem and ensure the safety and security of our community. Let’s take action and do our part to address this issue, and work towards building a more moral and upright society.

Send pictures, videos, location, and time to the admin to have the video posted publicly on the new WhatsApp group created for tracking and reporting crime in our community.

There was a very expensive package stolen from a porch, there were cameras, the police was called and it’s very known who this ganiv is, lives right here on Empire Blvd, it’s known in which apt he lives. The police said in order to check his apt he needs to get a warrant and that takes two days. The officers weren’t that eager to help. Tried to tell the officers that if this particular package is not found they’ll find plenty others. And that was the begining and end of that. So much more needs to be done.
Ny city is trash and it isn’t changing anytime soon,and with the mayor and gov we have it makes everything worse everyone should just move to Florida

Those are harsh and uncouth words. NY is not trash, although it is currently being trashed. I love NY. In our time it is the headquarters of the Lubavitch movement, home to 770, the Ohel, our educational system and home base of many of our important organizations. You should obviously call shmira when needed but at the end of the day when they get people arrested ( some for really bad crimes) you end up seeing the same person a day later.
It feels pointless,is there anything that can be done to get these people locked up for longer?

My husband has seen the crime happening and has told them to put it back which they did.
While that’s a nice gesture, BH nothing happened to your husband. Very dangerous to engage with a criminal–he could wind up a victim or otherwise in trouble. If the laws and law enforcement were a little different that would be a different story but for now NY is a lost cause.
There is money for the city when there is more crime.

There was a six point difference in the governor race. That was close in such a DemocRATic state. If ninety per cent of frum Jews would register to vote we could of beat the DemocRATs. Upstate Monsey beat the democratic congressman even though Biden got involved twisting the arms of rabbis. In Jackson New Jersey as well ninety per cent of the frum Jews voted and got their winning team. It’s possible.
