On Tuesday night, the eve of Chof Kislev, community members from all over Ottawa, the capital of Canada, joined an evening of unity focused on Emunah and Bitachon hosted by Congregation Machzikei Hadas.
This special evening brought together the Shluchim and shul Rabbis of Ottawa together with their respective communities – a very diverse crowd experiencing this powerful event together.
Rabbi Idan Scher of Congregation Machzikei Hadas emceed the event.
The Ottawa community was joined by Rabbi Lazer Gurkow of London, Ontario as he spoke about how bitachon allows us to see light in what seems like the darkest moments of our lives just as the transformational light of Chassidus exploded from the darkness of a Soviet prison.
Rabbi Gurkow was joined by two community members who shared their personal stories of how bitachon sustained them at their most difficult moments.
At the end of the event the over 150 participants went home with a copy of the new Kehot publication of Shaar HaBitachon from Chovot HaLevavot.
As the first part of the evening came to an end the tables were pushed together as Rabbi Gurkow led a spirited farbrengen late into the night.

Growing up, Rabbi Idan Scher davened at Chabad of Wilmette, a Chicago suburb, and went to Camp Gan Yisroel Montreal.
The Scher family were in fact the Founders of the Chai Center – Chabad of Wilmette which started in the basement of their home.
Go Ottawa!
The bright & holy capital of Canada shining with goodness and kindness!
