Students of the Shluchim Online School delight an online audience with a live online production, sharing a message of strength and courage.
Titled “Faith Aflame,” the performance followed young 12-year-old Raizel’s journey through her move from Poland to America, the “naieh velt.”
The audience joins in her struggle to stay strong against the modern influences surrounding her. Through song and drama, the 5th and 6th grade actresses from across the world kept the audience spellbound, sharing their technical and artistic talent as they seamlessly maneuvered the mics, cameras, and backdrops, all while singing, dancing, and reciting their lines.
“The production was such a great experience for Cirel. To be able to express her creativity this way and to be so involved in practicing, memorizing lines, and choosing costumes was really a new and different outlet for her. This production has had a huge impact on her Online School experience. It was meaningful, special and joyful!” said one of the students’ mother, Mrs. Devorah Leah Levertov, Shlucha to Sante Fe, NM.
The storyline and message particularly resonated with these girls. As Shluchos throughout the world, each of them has been in the position of role model and leader from a very young age. Raizel’s story of strength, her ability to influence rather than be influenced, and to shine the light of Yiddishkeit in a place where there seems to be so little, is their story. “I so get Raizel,” some students noted, “It’s easy to really feel and play my character because I feel like this play is about me.”
Morah Elisheva Greenes, a teacher to the 5th and 6th grades said: “It was an incredible experience for my Talmidos. The girls were very excited. The process brought out the individual creativity and talent in each girl, and we saw how each girl felt special, shining in her own personal way. It was such a beautiful way for the girls to connect and to give over this powerful message!”
Much thanks and appreciation goes to Rivka Rapoport, extra-curricular programming director, for directing the girls and working with them to produce this memorable show.
Thank you to the parents of the students for helping to make this long-distance performance a huge success, and to the 5th and 6th grade teachers, Morah Greenberg, Morah Greenes, Morah Raskin, and Morah Horowitz for their tremendous dedication, encouragement and warmth.

Are they for real doing plays online? I see the scenery there but how do the kids act with each other? Is the public invited to watch it? So cool!
