When reading the kuntres Beis Rabeinu Shebibovel and seeing how the Rebbe speaks of the necessity to expand 770 because this is where the light of Chassidus spreads to the entire world and where the Beis Hamikdosh will come down first and then move to Jerusalem, I got inspired. Inspired to band together with a few friends and brainstorm about how to get this expansion to happen.
We ran into endless explanations ranging in size shape, and opinion and we were told we were basically trying to resolve something impossible. But one thing was for sure, everyone we spoke to wanted expansion.
We spoke and dreamed and planned and reached out and after much deliberation the only idea left on the table was to create a platform where it can be made known to all, that the Chassidim want to expand 770, and, “If there is a will, there’s a way,” “אין דבר העומד בפני הרצון”.
It was very important that it was clear that this petition is not about attacking anyone, taking sides or pushing any other agendas, simply a request for expansion. We felt that this idea can do no harm towards the expansion efforts and that it can only advance the effort with Hashem’s help.
Last Friday, I wasted no time and immediately published the petition so that it would have the strength of, “The way we begin on Shabbos Breishis is the way the rest of the year will go,” “אזוי ווי מ’שטעלט זיך אוועק שבת בראשית, אזוי גייט עס א גאנץ יאר”.
This year is ה’תש”פ and one of the acronyms for the year is תהא שנת פרצת which is the numerical value of 770 and also means “break-out of the boundaries” (See Kuntres Beis Rabeinu, where the Rebbe mentions these very sentiments), I feel optimistic that this year we will finally expand our shul.
It is Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan, and the Midrash says that the Third Beis Hamikdosh will be built in Cheshvan. Just the very fact that we have Chassidim asking for the expansion to happen, should bring about the immediate revelation of the Beis Hamikdosh Hashlishi in 770 and from there to Yerushalaim with Moshiach Tzidkeinu now!
Sincerely,
Levi Jacobson
p.s. Some have asked about the petition image. When you google “770 expansion” that’s the only picture that comes up and I’ve been unable to find any other picture.

Do you realize the ohel is always busy but still
Has
Paper towels
Working sinks
Clean plazes to daven
No leaks
No dirty towels
No ……
There seems to be something more than just overcrowding as the problem
I dont know
Did you participate in the charity campaign that the Gaboim organized last year?
it is how it is spent and managed
https://col.org.il/news/8160
We must make it possible for the whole community to use the shul it cannot stay this small
Great idea, I’m sure the people who are in charge will take this to heart
What happened to previous plan, those pictures still in my memory. Rebbe’s Bima at the corner of the quadrant
B.h. and thank you for levy Jacobson who took the courege to start a petition, we need to make a petition for new gabayyim 770 should be an example of proper Management
If Mendel is in BLN so am I.
We can do this. For our Rebbe.
Levi thank you for your wonderful spirit and energy of moshiach
petition to who ??? i couldnt find any mention to whom this petition is addressed. By the way the legal owners of course is A.C.C (as established by the rebbe). Needles to say that acknowledging the above is not taking sides at all.
The petition is to whoever it may be, we hope that the people who can do anything the expansion will take notice. We as chassidim are just making our opinion known that we don’t want to continue with the status quo and nothing should be holding back the expansion from happening.
but there is something holding it back along with many other things. We’re not going to get anywhere until we address the core of the issue
Only the parties involved at the “core” can sort out their own issues. I’m not one to say I have the solution. I’m sure there are many who have tried.
I signed the petition to make my voice heard that these “issues” should not be holding back the expansion – something the Rebbe and everyone else wants. I also don’t see how we’re any better off now that it’s been held back more than 25 years.
In short, we all want it, let’s do it.
I remember hearing from Rabbi Krinsky that the Rebbe was against making 770 taller than it currently is/was, that he didn’t want the building to go above 4 floors. I would be curious to hear more about it if someone can look into it.
There was a design and plan. Why would u not use that plan. Beautiful brochures were sent out. Why go with something that looks like a church or museum hovering over eclipsing 770?
Ofcourse 770 needs to be expanded, but I dont understand y today, more than 2 decades after 3 tammuz, its being brought up! Its hard for me to believe that there is no agenda behind this petition, knowingly or uknowingly to this author. I just feel suspicious and would do some research before signing!
Just surprised and thinking should do a little soul searching. Here is a chossid expressing his derher after learning chassiduss, someone that sees what is needed from a practical, chassiduss, halachic and hashkofic standpoint. I know Levi, he only wants the best for 770 and to carry out the rebbes wishes
Who are you petitioning, Trump? A petition is generally directed somewhere. and who do you think currently has the legal authority to approve of the proposed construction?
why not build the real beis hamikdash? not that this isn’t a great idea? just put these resources towards the real deal maybe
A great idea but……if that is the architectural design, I’m not so sure.
Please readdress the roof shape and tops of windows as it’s looking like – L’havdil – a cloister.
I see that whoever designed this wanted to try and keep in line with the original 770 peeked roof tops but as it is, it’s just not right.
Good luck.
A cloister is a covered walkway, often facing a courtyard. They are found in many places, as it is an architectural feature. A cloister is not a backwards way of saying church, it just points out a feature that is common in such places.
My first impression.
He specifically says that is not the proposed design but the only image he could find…
770 should gave space to sit at least
5000 Look at all the other chasidic Shul’s
Belz Gur viznitz satmar Many times bigger then 770
770 should be 4 times bigger then it’s size at the moment
Let it happen
Every once in a while I stop off at 770 to catch a mincha. You need to really expand the shul. Every other Chassidis does that. In squaretown the skverer shul holds 5000 people and they are now expanding to bigger. If they could possibly buy off along Kingston ave or eastern parkway and triple the size of the shul it would be great. In Boro park Bobbov 45 is building a whole block where the Y used to be on 14 ave and 49 and 50 st. Time to expand.
Beautiful idea but who are we petitioning to?
If you read the comments in this link with an expansion idea, you’ll see why it hasn’t happened yet. People are worried about the history and original design chosen by the Rebbe changing. Expansion would need to somehow maintain the old design as well as the place the Rebbe stood in order for people to agree.

And where will the money come from?
..לרומם את בית אלוקינו ולהכן העולם להיום ש”קהל גדול ישובו הנה”!
Moshiach now!
Sorry but the neglect of the current 770 is a must topic to discuss. the Women section restrooms are disaster and smell is so unpleasant…please hire a good cleaning crew, invest in better ventilation and new toilets. only then discuss major changes.
Second one, to all who are doing renovations – you must do Restoration, pls keep the same style and colors, it’s an historical site that must be preserved for all future generation. Pls don’t mix styles into it.
Thank you, concern resident
If 770 is overcrowded then it will always be a mess
Did you ever use a public bathroom anywhere? Ohel, airport, busy Staten Island Ferry? It’s all clean, why? Because NonStop cleaning crew is there and someone on top of them. AC is not working properly in 770 and air control is not exactly exist there. Sorry but it’s our Iconic Place, it’s so hard to see the mess around. Leftover Food, and the list is going on and on …. and people who made it as a bazar inside sorry but it bothers me and that’s why I don’t want to hear about money going to the future when the… Read more »
While I salute your positive energy and effort to keep this free of negativity, and while the building is used by the chassidic public, it’s a privately (organizationally) owned and controlled building. So it seems you’re misdirecting your energy and anyone else’s who gets swept in your energy vortex. Of your constructive options, at least three are: a. speak to and convince the building’s controller(s)/owner(s) of your agenda b. find out if the organization has membership which controls it and its board and, if yes, become a member and sway the membership and its governance. c. find out if this… Read more »
Sending this poignant but pertinent bullet list to the guys running this initiative. It was sharff but tzum zach 😀 and I love positivity 😀
The rebbe also said to build an armon (palace) for melech hamoshiach. Why don’t you first sign that petition?
