Over the past decade, Chabad.org has published many letters from the Rebbe in English for the benefit of its diverse audience, sharing with them these gems.
From personal advice to pastoral letters before yomim tovim, these letters have been published in Chabad.org’s holiday sites, parenting and advice columns, and more.
Now, in connection with Gimmel Tammuz, Chabad.org has released an online library of this growing collection. Comprised mostly of letters to private individuals who shared their precious collections with Chabad.org to benefit the public, these letters cover a myriad of topics, from loss and suffering to politics and politicians, from debunking Biblical criticism to determining the age of the universe.
“This collection provides access to the Rebbe’s approach on a plethora of topics and issues that society grapples with,” said Rabbi Mendel Alperowitz who is overseeing this project.
The collection debuted on TheRebbe.org , which is a joint venture of Chabad.org and Jewish Educational Media (JEM).
In one letter the Rebbe writes to a leading American rabbi what the proper approach to the ‘awakening of the ‘60s’ needs to be. In another, the Rebbe responds to an individual who sought the Rebbe’s opinion on investing in the stock market.
This new library brings together hundreds of these letters and makes it easily accessible. The library is organized by topic and date and also offers a free text search employing Chabad.org’s search engine for more custom queries.
Developers of this project drew inspiration from other crowd sourcing initiatives in creating thesite, and the project aims to further involve readers by inviting them to upload their own collections to share with the public.
