The headquarters of the OK Kosher Certification located in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn is becoming a must stop for visiting tourist groups.
Visitors from around American interested in Jewish life and Chassidic customs are learning about the international apparatus behind kosher products that certifies over 500,000 products and ingredients on six continents.
The latest group to visit the OK, led by Rabbi Don Yoel Levy, arrived from the Chabad Israeli Center in Atlanta, Georgia, led by Rabbi Menachem Gurary and Rabbi Alexander Piekarski.
They were welcomed by Rabbi Kalman Weinfeld, Rabbinic Coordinator of the Food Service Department at OK and Rabbi of Manhattan Beer Distributors.
He detailed the different departments at the OK and gave them an explanation of the laws of kashrus and the basics of keeping it on a regular basis.
“When they see a building that has close to 80 workers -besides for the rabbis and mashgichim in the field- they are very impressed,” Rabbi Weinfeld told COLlive.com.
“They understand that kashrus isn’t just stamping a label with a symbole but requires year-round work into every ingredient and coordination with every company,” he said.
