A young Jewish woman from Crown Heights was the victim of a rage-filled attack on the New York City subway in Brooklyn on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on the Brooklyn bound 2 train, when the 23-year-old woman was attacked by a Black man who got on the train at the Franklin Avenue stop.
The man entered the car at the beginning of the train, and proceeded to shout at the woman, who is visibly Jewish.
The attacker got close up into the victim’s face and shouted, “You little Jewish girl, get the [expletive] off the train, you little Jewish [expletive],” repeatedly at the victim, her family members told COLlive.com
He also threatened the woman, saying, “you little Jewish girl better get off this train before I hurt you,” they said.
The attacker is described as a black male, in his mid 20’s with a thin build, about 6 feet tall. He was wearing black jeans, a red sweater, black jacket, ski mask and black sneakers.
The terrified woman fled from the train, and was extremely shaken by the attack, witnesses said. They added that equally shocking was the indifference of fellow passengers who remained silent and didn’t intervene.
A file has been reported to the NYPD.
The police have not said whether this will be investigated as a hate crime.
Update: The NYPD has determined that the incident will be investigated as a hate crime.
NY is trash and getting worse. Watch your kids.
There would be riots
Think good and it will be good
Similar thing happened to me on the train a few weeks ago.
It’s shocking but every Jew should be aware that the subways are very anti-Semitic and not a safe place at all!
I’m so furious. I am scared to walk in the streets ! I am petrified to go on the train ! This is what they should focus on. The people running this city are a bunch of clowns
Kahana was right.
It’s dangerous everywhere but definitely in NY
Poor woman. That’s traumatizing. Mace or pepper spray ?
We can’t avoid trains or just walking around.
Nights? Forget about it.
What would pepper spray help?? he would just hurt her!!
Did he spread Covid while shouting ?
At least people are worried about the wrong things.
How can this be anything but a hate crime???
exactly!!
That our own city can’t protect its residence. Our children. Some of us don’t have another means of transport.
Poor girl!!! Are you okay?
Girls and boys please travel in groups not alone if possible.
So sorry!
I travel the trains to work. its so scary I see a difference from 2 years ago and now.
Yes, many of the humans have stopped taking the trains because of remote work but the animals remain. And the decreasing presence and increasing impotence of law enforcement exacerbates things.
Golus is takke shver.
Dehumanizing people is always unacceptable. Please stop speaking
and posting like this. It is a real Hillel hashem
Humans that act like animals forfeit their membership in the Family of Humanity and become equal to animals.
In fact, it is insulting to animals to call such human-shaped creates “animals”.
A Ben-Noach that transgresses one of the 7 Noach Laws, loses his right to remain in existence (is eligible for Capital Punishment).
Learn a little and reset your moral compass before you get lost in Far Left La-La Land.
Where does “left La-La Land enter into the previous comment? They’re 100% right in cautioning the use of inflammatory language. It confuses the issue here. The issue is a hateful, antisemite being and antisemite. Leave the “animal” rhetoric out of it. That just gives them a platform to stand on and shout “racist.” It is, indeed, a chilul Hashem
The idea that one must never call a person an animal is a FALSE POLITICAL IDEA from the FAR LEFT. We must call it out and resist it whenever it rears its ugly head. People who behave like animals ARE ANIMALS. That is how it is and how it will always be, and we must not censor our language just because the Marxists want to control our thoughts.
Shomrim on the trains!
Our leaders will now have to eat more food and take more pictures with more politicians and post it for everyone to see meanwhile Jews are being beaten and battered on every other street corner. The community leaders know what they are doing !
You are blaming our community leadership (lol) for the safety of the NYC subway system?
I’m not blaming them if you read my comment. I’m pointing out the lack of movement in general in regards to safety in the crown heights are, even though every week we see pictures of them wining and dining every other top police official
Why is the solution to keep running away ??? Are we little kids? Maby it’s time to stand up for ourselves! Let’s get much more volunteers to take care of business and then maby peapole will think twice before doing such things
What do you do when the brave solution proves inadequate.
What would you have counseled her to do?
Do you propose shomrim on NYC subway routes? Have you done the math on that?
Do you propose go Punisher and start a race war? Do you think that’s good way to spend Jewish time?
There isn’t any viable short term solution to the decay of humanity and rule of law in NYC.
Stun gun???
Always works. Know what to aim for 😉
We should teach all of our children boys and girls how to punch someone if this happens and some self defense lessons wouldn’t hurt us all.
Yes this is happening organically. Self defense is gaining mindshare among the youth. Still not going to make the subway safe.
You cannot attack someone physically when they have verbally attacked you. I’m not saying in any way that the offender is right or has the right to yell abusively at people. It’s scary to be yelled at, but at the same time jumping up and landing a well aimed kick (in the…) isn’t going to land you on the correct side of the law. There was a smart comment about the use of pepper / mace spray further up. If you feel threatened in a way that say, a person is towering over you – pepper spray / mace would… Read more »
Please askonim, you should distribute again as before COVID pepper spray for the community! Every one, man and woman should walk with in their pockets.
And get us krav maga (or any self defense) courses.
We won’t tolerate no discrimination on us!
Just to clarify: Was the young woman wearing a mask? Was he screaming at her because of she was not wearing a mask? I ask, because I’ve been on the #3 and noted all the nonJewish passengers were wearing masks but several of the Jewish young people were not. One young woman approached a nonJewish passenger and offered her a Sheva Mitzvos card. Not only did the nonJewish woman not accept the card, she turned to another passenger and made some comment about the Jewish girl not wearing a mask. The two nonJews laughed and shook their heads. Then a… Read more »
I was threatened to leave the train for being a Jew (despite wearing a mask).
Blame it on the mask. As a Jew you should not offer justifications for antisemitism.
It is like asking whether the Jews really did poison the wells in history class. Or maybe Christian blood was the secret ingredient of matzah. Call it by its name “ANTISEMITISM” no further reason is necessary.
If this is what you jump to after reading this article, maybe they’re right that there’s something in the vaccine that messes with your head. I’m vaccinated, let me know how long it takes till my brain starts working as poorly as this
There is something wrong with a person who feel that hate crimes could possibly be due to someone not wearing a mask.
Nothing excuses this horror, the trains have become a nightmare. Incidents on the trains are up over 100%, according to the city. However, incidentally please note that IT IS THE LAW that we are all supposed to be wearing masks on the subways. Why should Yidden be the only ones not wearing masks?
Why is the mask BS involved here ,
yes she is my daughter and she was coming home from a preschool teaching job,
wearing mask all day
this was pure hate he was twice her size,
the NYPD qualified it as a hate crime F Y I
I’m so sorry that this happened to your daughter. How awful for her and your family. No one should expect her to do anything other than what she did. What bothers me the most is not the one lunatic (of course that is terrible) but the lack of action and compassion of the other passengers. I’m probably not much bigger than she is but I am older and I have been thinking about how to be an ally to people – to anyone who needs it in the past few years. There are many ways bystanders can create a distraction,… Read more »

I’m a mask wearer when I’m supposed to and not anti mask in any way, but you cannot be serious. A young girl being attacked and cursed at this is what you ask??!?
So it is okay to scare and yell and get in the face of a person if they do t have a mask on?
You really need to get your priorities and order and regardless of a mask or not stand with your own people who are being attacked each day.
You are disgusting .
Personally I wore a mask in the London Underground even when I didn’t have to. But here you are victim blaming. You sicken me
I travel the trains every day all the yodden do wear mask
Btw it is the law to wear a mask in the subway.
No one is condoning or excusing the acts of this deranged, dangerous anti-semite. We, as identifying religious Jews, should follow the rules that apply to everyone. No reason to stand out as “scofflaws” on the subway and have anyone look at us with a bad eye.
No one gives a shnuk about the bloody masks. Stop finding ways to say that the offender is yelling about masks. Move on in life, mate.
Nypd are lazy and useless
Fact.
And nephew were on the subway (many years back) and we got harassed by a man all up in our faces. Not a single person flinched. They all watched :(. It was scary.
Rode on the train to work for 20 years, they have always been like this. At Kingston Ave they jump the turnstiles for their free rides and then proceed to turn the transit system into their private zoo. For some reason, instead of letting the WORLD know, it’s been a well kept secret. Which is why it continues. Things are getting worse under this new mayor.
While not doing a thing to earn anything but contempt and repugnance.
It is scary to be verbally abused and threatened by someone larger than you. It is scary to have that done to you while other people are present. It is scary to move to defend someone being harassed. Bullying is scary for victims and audience. There are few among us who have the bravery and strength (mind and body) to stop bullying. (I’m intentionally avoiding the anti-Semitic aspect which compounds the issue). It is scary to walk inside a cage in the zoo. May we all find and feed and cultivate and express the bravery within us to maintain what… Read more »
The subway became a dangerous place, the city is a dangerous place, our streets are dangerous place. Why? Because so many unstable persons are there and city not taking anyone to the mental health facilities or rehabs. All the system is not working properly, police arresting and the courts releasing the criminals – our tax money not working for us. What the new mayor plans to make our city safe? What are particular plans with hate crime? Too many questions too little answers. I’m a mother for little kids – I’m trying not to use subway – I’m scary like… Read more »
Inexcusable this aggressive behavior on the subway , unfortunately things are out of control rife weed smoking on the subway and unacceptable violent behavior , but as we know from past mayors who have turned the city around it starts with the quality of life crimes . Did anyone look at the CH streets lately there is once a week car moving and even this can not get done and the streets cleaned. The mask mandate is exactly that a mandate and we should exemplify adherence, and for all those that say it doesn’t work next time a homeless person… Read more »
The cops are no longer here to keep ppl safe .
Our community leaders sold out the ppl a long time ago
That would keep the subways safe for a few months.
Google it.
Another mentally ill criminal of color targeting a white, Asian or Jew. Google “unprovoked attacks and NYC” and notice the pattern. Before NYS Gov Hochul spends $10 billion on the Interborough Express which is meant to help people black and brown people ( her political words in the press release), spend the money on security cameras, more transit cops placed in areas where needed most, a Transit ID card, a Transit Mobile App with location data that can be used as a panic button for everone on the train and more security enforecement at entry points.
That will keep the subways safe for a few months.

Its a legal term that makes things different for other crime? How?
A hate crime is simply a crime that was motivated by hatred for some group to which the victim belongs (or the criminal thinks so). The difference is only in the penalty; if you hit someone for some private reason it’s assault, but if you hit them because they’re a member of some group that you hate, then it’s assault as a hate crime, and the penalty is significantly higher. But hatred itself is not and cannot be a crime in this country. It’s a free country and you’re entitled to hate anyone you please, but you can’t commit crimes… Read more »
This happened to me years ago, I pushed the intercom button and reported that a man was physically threatening me. Describe the person and give the car number, which is located on a plaque at the ends of the train. Do not be deterred by anyone complaining that the train will be delayed. Also, it may not be safe to leave the train, unless it’s a crowded station, since the thug might also jump off. Try to get to the conductor car (which you should probably be in all the time)
We need to walk the streets proudly but at the same time not arrogantly. Proud and confident, strong and tall. Smile when you are out there. Also recite yoshev b’seser when on the train or whenever in public.
In a perfect world, people would stand up and say something. I’m sure there were many that wanted to. But you never know who has a knife, who has a gun, and who might be crazy enough to use one. People don’t get involved because bystanders that get involved tend to get hurt. It sucks, but I don’t blame them.
Last week I was on a train when a man pulled out a knife and threatened another passanger . At the next stop I got off the train and told the conducter and showed him a picture. After two minutes waiting for the police to come, the man with the knife left the train and the conducter decided the incedent was over and left the train.
Safer place is near the conductor. Pepper spray is a must for all.
Also check Mezuza and shliach mitzah gelt etc
So this week in Boston someone, trying to intervene on behalf of another being attacked, was stabbed to death by the perpetrator. That’s the reality we are faced with when witnessing horrific threats in public. So I do not think we should judge the onlookers. They might have been intensely upset yet intensely afraid.
