The city Health Department has confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus of the 2017 season.
“The patient is less than 50 years old with underlying medical conditions and is in serious condition at a Manhattan hospital,” the agency reported.
In mid-June, the season’s first West Nile-infected mosquitoes were found on Staten Island.
So far this season, the Health Department has completed seven rounds of pesticide spraying and two aerial larvicide treatments to reduce the risk of the virus.
This week, the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will conduct ground-based spraying of mosquito adulticide in Brooklyn from Tuesday (8/15) to Wednesday (8/16) between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM.
The spraying will take place in parts of the following ZIP codes: 11203, 11207, 11208, 11212, 11215, 11217, 11218, 11219, 11220, 11225, 11226, 11232, 11234, 11236, 11238 and 11239.
In the case of inclement weather the spraying will occur from Wednesday (8/16) to Thursday (8/17) between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

“To educate neighborhoods about West Nile virus, the Department has enhanced outreach to at-risk communities – particularly in senior centers and other venues – in Staten Island and Brooklyn,” the agency reported.
“The findings from our mosquito surveillance are concerning and serve as a reminder for all New Yorkers that they can take simple precautions to protect themselves and their families from mosquito bites: wear mosquito repellent, cover your arms and legs when you are outdoors, get rid of standing water, and install window screens,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Mary T. Bassett. “We will not be able to completely eradicate West Nile virus from the mosquito population, but we can reduce human transmission and save lives.”
This spray is known to cause cancer. I am very concerned as i live in 11225. If you live in 11213 u have nothing to be concerned about so stop complaining
The spray is poison.
Will 11213 be sprayed?
In addition. I do see in the link it is just an estimated map and should not be relied on exactly. Nevertheless my2 Q. In my previous comment stands.
From the map link you include in your article. It seams as the bulk of crown heights Lubavitch area is NOT included. On the photo, the indent is a deliberate move. I’m confused and more concerned with this.
2 fold question comes to mind.
A) why is CH excluded
B) why share in here if we aren’t included?
Please explain
Does that mean that if u don’t live in that zip code there will not be spraying ? Why aren’t they gona be spraying the whole Bklyn, these mosquitoes could fly everywhere, why not say the whole Bklyn, this is a very serious issue
