For the past year a self defense program for Orthodox Jews, Bitachon Frum Defense has been operating in Crown Heights.
Last Tuesday, the educational organization had a chance to show the 71st and 77th police precincts and parents what they have achieved so far, in an annual evening of appreciation that was organized by the Jewish Community Council (CHJCC).
The participants were boys from groups aged 6 to 13, and among other things they demonstrated acrobatic skills, discipline and the power of transforming fear into bravery.
One skit showed high level of concentration when a blindfolded boy repelled an attack against 3 opponents. The spectators were clearly impressed, including Mrs. Batya Brandel and Rabbi Eli Cohen who helped make this program happen.
The purpose of the program is to strengthen the health of children and community members, as well as to teach them self-defense techniques, regardless of age and gender.
The members range from 4 to 70 years old and include boys, men, girls and women. Several times a week they come to the CHJCC gym at 899 Montgomery Street and participate in gymnastics, acrobatics and self defense classes.
This is amazing! My only advice would be to wear clips to keep their yamikas from falling. Everything else is great!
To the one(s) who thought up the idea;
to the ones who organized it;
to the ones who teach it;
to the ones who have decided to participate and have their children participate;
This is necessary and very important. V’nishmartem m’od l’nafshoseichem….
