The NYPD will be increasing police patrols in the Crown Heights neighborhood following 2 muggings on the same night.
On Sunday evening, a 19-year old Jewish man was robbed at gunpoint on Union Street near Albany Avenue at 7:00 pm.
The thieves were described as black males, 6’2 and 6’3, police said. They were wearing black and blue hoodies, and their faces were covered by medical masks, the victim’s family told COLlive.com.
They then stole his phone and wallet and got back into their vehicle and drove off Eastbound on Union Street.
In a second incident, a Jewish woman who was walking on Troy Avenue near Rutland Rd. at approximately 11:30 PM was approached by a black male who attempted to snatch her purse.
The victim began to scream and resisted but the thief managed to grab her purse and run off.
The NYPD 71st Precinct is investigating both incidents.
Concerned with the uptick in crime, Rabbi Chanina Sperlin of the CHJCC contacted Chief Brian Conroy, Assistant Chief of Patrol Brooklyn South, to request more patrols in the area.
“Chief Conroy informed me that he will be adding an additional 12 officers, and the 71st Precinct said they will be adding an extra 4 officers, to patrol the streets from the hours of 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM,” Sperlin told COLlive.com.
“We hope this will help to stop these incidents and keep our residents safe,” Sperlin said.

After a few days they always forget about it. Every time it’s the same thing.
Do you think there is any chance of things changing?
…things get so bad that New Yorkers actually elect a Republican, as they did in 1993 with Giuliani.
When Jews start really loving one another.
I had a number of very bad experiences in crown heights with Chabadnicks.

When will our community leader stop being friends with NYPD and politicians get protection for the community in stopping ALL the breaking car window and breaking into cars STOP ALL packages being taken from our porches so that we and our kids can walk in the street.
Vigilantees who break bones works very well.
the New York City Criminal Justice System interested in making money not stopping crime.
Instead of these empty promises of more police patrols for 3 days that do nothing to protect us let every single legal gun holder who has a home premises permit be allowed to carry and defend himself since we clearly see this city can’t protect us
and what about the rest of us?
Now!
thanks to shomrim gadi and group
And I will enjoy my safe neighborhood 🙂
Poway? Pittsburgh? If you are Jewish they will find a way
You’re talking about a person who came in and shot up a shul which thank G-d is not a common occurrence VS weekly/monthly muggings and the ppl get away with it. Please.
Join Shmira/Shomrim At a time where the police are almost nowhere to be found, and the criminals are on the streets of Kan Tziva Hashem Es Habrocha. Shmira and Shomrim, both great organizations, are out all day and all night doing their best for us all, they are also probably currently stretched thin because they are getting double or triple the amount of incidents more than usual that they need to respond to over the past month. These brave individuals are volunteering their time for you, for us, for our community, but they both need more brave individuals to join… Read more »
Shomrim / Shmira – For mature working bocherim or men to help out with the current matzav of the safety and security of Kan Tziva Hashem Es Habrocha. To consider joining either of these selfless safety organizations for your neighborhood, best is to contact a friend, relative or someone you know that is already in either Shmira or Shomrim to inquire with them directly about possibly joining.
IT’S TIME TO PUT BACK THE POLICE PATROL ON CORNERS UNION AND ALBANY!
The perps know the no cash bail law and they know for petty crime they’ll be out on the streets within hours and given a court date they we’ll never show up to.
To Guns,
and if this 19 year old boy had a gun on him, it would be much better, right?
first we have to imprison Mr. Bill De Blasio for destroying New York!
and then give 10 years instead of 2 hours to anyone who does a crime…then we will be safer
remember what stopped the assaulting game that went on and on..it was 10 Years in prison sentence that did that.
A call to Action, All our Young Chevra, Older Mature Bocherim & Yungerleit in CH need to be highly encouraged to step up to the plate, to get involved a little & to be active to a extent in helping their community, its a real shame that there are merely a few dozen active amazing concerned members of our community in Shmira/Shomrim,. All Older Mature Working Bocherim & Yungerlait should really consider joining either Shmira or Shomrim. We cant always rely on other people in our community to step up to the plate to helpout, But to actually lead by example… Read more »
I was hoping Sperlin would be giving an update on the immediate arrest and follow up prosecution of the thugs that could have easily ch’v done a number on one of our own. The NYPD has the most advanced number plate tracking system in the world along with the bank transfer these thugs should have been in custody already.
Please do something and have the NYPD finds these thugs immediately.
We can no longer play nice. The thugs have to start fearing our community once more. Make crown heights safe again MCHSA! Things gonna get worse before it gets better.
One would think so, no? That is an electronic paper trail with a time/date stamp, right?
I sure hope there is a way to trace the recipients of the CashApp money and press criminal charges. Armed robbery is still a serious charge.
Yes these guys are not too smart. A couple of years ago in Marine Park, I was stupid enough to accidently leave a check book in the back seat. A few days later, someone cashed too large checks from the account and deposited it to their account. Chase Bank called me asking and it was referred to the fraud division and eventually I got my money back. We went to the local precinct, the officer gave me a lecture and acted like there was no hope. But a couple of weeks later, he called me and asked me to come… Read more »
