The New York Police Department will be stepping up patrols at Shuls and Jewish institutions around the New York area following a horrific shooting attack at a Pittsburgh congregation on Shabbos.
The shooting suspect, identified as Robert Bowers, 46, opened fire while shouting “all Jews must die,” during a baby naming ceremony on Shabbos morning.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio held a news conference outside of Park East Synagogue on the Upper East Side in the wake of the shooting that killed 11 people and wounded 6 others.
De Blasio called anti-Semitism a “dangerous cancer on our society” as he vowed to protect the Jewish community. He said the NYPD deployed officers to synagogues and Jewish communities following the attack.
He said that at this time there is no credible and specific threat directed at any Jewish institutions in New York City, “but we do not take this situation lightly nonetheless.”
Deputy Inspector Francis Giordano, Commanding Officer of the NYPD 71st Precinct in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, met with Chanina Sperlin of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council to discuss the security of the neighborhood.
“We will be increasing patrols around the Crown Heights neighborhood following this event,” Giordano told COLlive.com. “Any incident such as this creates an environment where we need more of a police presence at synagogues and houses of worship.
“We have assigned an extra patrol car to 770 and extra patrols to the neighborhood, for this weekend and into next week,” Giordano said.
Deputy Inspector Giordano said he is also working on coordinating additional security for next week’s Kinus conference for Shluchim, which brings 4,000 people from around the world to Crown Heights.
“As we move into the men’s Kinus conference next week, we will request additional counter-terrorism resources,” he said.
“If anyone in the community sees anything suspicious or has any information about criminal activity here or in any area, they should contact us, and call 911 for immediate assistance,” Giordano said.
NYPD Chief of Department Terence A. Monahan said that NYPD officers in every precinct throughout the city are visiting sensitive locations to ensure the safety of all New Yorkers. “Thousands of officers, many of them active-shooter trained, are vigilant and patrolling our city,” he said.
I cant agree more!! Chas Vesholom if someone plants a parcel there……….
All Shuls and schools should have security
Unfortunately, 770 is treated as hefker. No checks on who goes in and out. Suitcases and other parcels are put down all over the place, with nobody concerned whom they belong to or what they contain. Time to crack down and treat 770 like any other private property that is open to the public. “If you see something say something” does not exist. There is no one in charge to say anything to.
we need to have our 2nd rights and allowed to carry a weapon for self defense, if someone had a gun there it would have ot been this tragic
in the police truck across the block there is usually two officers
yes it is Scary Ad Mosai
It’s scary that when a child is molested in shul or yeshiva it is covered up. Every shul officer needs to be a mandatory reporter of child abuse. You do not need to do much. We need to start reporting child abuse and then hen you will see how fast it will stop.
None of the police officers were killed. They are all in stable condition and one was already released from the hospital. May everyone who need a Refuah, be so granted.
President Trump was merely stating the cold, hard reality of the situation. For people who want to live with “their heads in the sand”, it’s an unfortunate dose of truth which will (hopefully) disengage their cranium’s from their current subterranean repose. Truth hurts, there is no other way about it. In this case it hurt really badly. Unfortunately it doesn’t make it any less true……
Situations like these always make me think that if ch’v something like this happened here on shabbos or yom tov, no one in shul or on the street would even have a phone to call 911. I don’t know what the answer is, but I think shuls here do need to come up with emergency plans.
Conceal and Carry
The reason is because in case he’s not alone but linked with others who will do something similar i.e against Jews in other places, and because an act like this has the potential to incite others to try the same. Usually after a few weeks the story blows over and there is less of a risk of someone doing something as a follow-up.
However the key works are ‘additional’ ‘extra’ a level of basic security must be maintained always. Important to note that three of the eleven people killed were officers protecting the shul.
This is a good time for everyone to consider protecting themselves. I can’t think of a better way then reachin out to R Raziel Cohen. Ndftraining.com
Over 2 years ago we’re African American stabbed a bochur in 770.
There many police cars outside 770 .
Bocherim ran out to call the police guy in the police command center.
Sure enough he was sleeping.
The CEO of 71 is playing us like fools .
They must have cops standing in front of 770 and one inside 770 .

Thank you Dovid.
You are right. The molestation of children in any shul is unacceptable. There needs to be more transparency and reporting of molesters to local law enforcement. This cannot be delt with by the Rabbi or board of the shul. Anyone who molests a child should know it will be reported to the police just let me a shooter.
almost every chabad house out of ny has an armed security guard stationed at the door during every event. They also have cement blocks which do not allow for a car to crash into the buildings. Many of our shuls have members who carry guns as well and are on the alert.
770 should have the same or even better protection always.
May we never have to witness something horrible like this again anywhere chas v’sholom. But let’s be prepared.
Kosher Mezuzos is like a helmet to protect
Very cute something happens they put extra patrol for one two days back to normal life. It’s time we don’t rely on others we got it protect ourselves and take the necessary steps to do that
Armed guards
Why didn’t you post President Trumps comment? How could he be so insensitive at a massacre like that to suggest that the congregation was partially to blame for not hiring armed security? Sad, to use one of his most well worn words.
I’m very glad for more police present but with all hate crime that had happened in CH for a past few months , and last week where no one found the criminal female , i feel very unsafe and unsecured to walk even during the day time . i would like to see patrol more often on our streets like it was few years ago include shomrim and shmira . Thank you
Time for each and every school to have armed guards.
Anything less is negligence on their part.
Time to put emphasis on safety and precaution.
Every shul should have members carrying a lethal weapon.
770 should have security cards, with photo ID for those that don’t want to use the metal detectors. Time to be realistic with the realities of our times.
Remember: Every administrator and his/her entire board are responsible for the safety of the children. Not having armed guards with a proper instant school lockdown plan is nothing short of negligence.
in Pittsburgh?
Besides security guards for the safety of the shuls, we also need to do something about the molestation that goes on there. There must be constant monitoring, and people encouraged to report
Armed guards is a must.Always
It’s obvious that the only solution for this kind of events is to have someone armed inside the shul, ready to shoot as soon as he sees that is needed.
If chv a goy hates us he may chv think of doing something not limited to this week or next we need to have a Kli for constant security please keep the police patrolling and protecting our community and all communities across the world always and forever Thank You!
Why wait till something happens somewhere and put patrol by 770? There should be patrol by 770 all the time and not just an empty police car parked outside
Ad Mosai
Hashem please end this galus already
We have assigned an extra patrol car to 770 and extra patrols to the neighborhood, for this weekend and into next week,” Giordano said.
Thank you and please continue the extra patrol until moshaich comes we need the added security from the police at all times especially outside 770 checking everyone that enters Thank You! Moshiach Now!
