NYPD Adding Extra Patrols in Crown Heights This Shabbos

The NYPD will add extra police coverage in Crown Heights on Shabbos in response to the white supremacist hate groups declaring a “national day of hate” targeting Jews this Shabbos, February 25th.

The NYPD says there have been no specific threats identified, but are stepping up security out of an abundance of caution.

The white supremacists have called for followers to distribute antisemitic messaging with banners, stickers, fliers and graffiti “to expose the international clique of parasitic vermin that infest our nation today.” Police have stepped up security in New York and locations such as Florida, Chicago, and others in response.

Devorah Halberstam, Honorary Safety Commissioner in the NYPD has been in contact with Commanding Officer Scott M. Henderson of Brooklyn Borough North and Commanding Officer Charles McEvoy of Brooklyn Borough South, who informed her that extra coverage is being arranged for the neighborhood.

“We thank the NYPD for their concern for the safety of our residents,” Halberstam told COLlive.com.

NYPD Commanding Officer of Community Affairs, Inspector Richie Taylor, said in a message to the community: “There is no credible threat to the Jewish community, or any community in New York City.”

Taylor said that the NYPD’s Intelligence and Counter Terrorism Bureau is monitoring the anonymous posts online, and that “out of an abundance of caution, you may see an increase of police presence in houses of worship and other locations, and we’ve asked our police officers to remain vigilant.”

“As always, if you see something, say something. Call our counter terrorism tip-line at 1888-NYC-SAFE, or in an emergency, call 911. But again, there is no credible threat to the Jewish community, or any community, in New York City.”
