Curtis Sliwa, Republican mayoral candidate for New York City, visited Crown Heights on Monday and toured 770 Eastern Parkway.
Sliwa, who is no stranger to the neighborhood, was present during the Crown Heights riots in 1991. As the founder of the Guardian Angels patrol group, he has always been in touch with the Jewish community in New York.
Sliwa was greeted by Noochie Gross and Eli Berkowitz, activists and lifelong residents of Crown Heights.
While touring 770 Chabad Headquarters, Sliwa reminisced about getting a dollar from the Rebbe and receiving the Rebbe’s blessing. He also spoke about his memories of attending a Farbrengen and said that he remembers the Rebbe looking at him directly in his eyes.
He also visited the 770 Shul and was greeted by residents. Sliwa heard about the needs of the community and promised to do all he can to assist when he is elected to office, he said.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to Curtis Sliwa, for all the years he stood by our community,” said Noochie Gross. “To many of us he is the best candidate for Mayor. His heart and mind are in the right place, and we wish him success in his candidacy and express our support.”

Vote sliwa to save NYC!
Cool guy, but there needs to be a fusion candidate. Sliwa, Adams, and Cuomo need to figure something out for the good of the city.
This is exactly why no one takes Crown Heights “askanim” seriously. We should not be supporting or endorsing this candidate. Meeting the Rebbe once and roaming around Crown Heights during the riots over 30 years ago does not excuse his repeated antisemitism since then. He’s not running to help our community or New York City, he’s running to feed his ego and stay relevant. If he truly cared about us or the city, he’d drop out of the race. He has no chance of winning, only a chance of siphoning votes from Adams and paving the way for someone like… Read more »
I clearly remember during the hate riots in 1991, Curtis with his Guardian Angels group standing at the corner of President and Kingston walking home all those that lived on the outskirts of the neighborhood. I very much appreciate what he did for out community back then and since then.
However, I am very troubled by his anti Semitic talks that he has since given. Very troubling. For this reason I cannot in good conscience support his candidacy.
That although this guy sliwa has many credits,
However, someone like eric adams –
Who has seen miracles,
Is worthy of being mayor
There is a backlash against democrats on slate with madami. There is a push away from democrats in many cities like in san fransisco. So just maybe he could become mayor. He should go to the ohel to get help as eric adams is doing
While it would be great to have a Republican as the mayor of NYC, there’s a disgusting video of Mr Sliwa on YouTube (https://youtu.be/qBqWkm_b_tQ?feature=shared) attacking the Orthodox Jewish community several years back. Watch this before deciding whether you want someone who harbours these prejudicial and reprehensible views representing you in office.
Mayor Adams is an honest, respectful guy, doing a great job in NYC! He deserves our vote!

Thank you for seeing the light and bringing him to CH. I pray that all the Jewish communities back him. If yes. With Hashem’s help, he will win and be out next mayor. He’s a much better choice than the others.
How quickly do people forget the horrors Cuomo did with the elderly during COVID. He wasn’t a good Governor – why back him for mayor?????
Good idea to suggest Sliwa and Eric Adams maybe join together (to gain both side votes). Either way, glad some in cH are endorsing Sliwa.
BezH we’ll have a big enough turnout for many votes for the good candidates: Adams and Sliwa, enough to stop the evil Mamdani and the lesser of two evils, Cuomo, who should drop out to save face when it’s shown that most of the votes he got in the primary weren’t intended for the general election no matter what the surveys (who most people don’t participate in because we don’t trust the callers) say. Both Adams and Sliwa are truly good candidates. They can both get more people genuinely more enthusiastic about voting and bezH there can be more votes.… Read more »
Departure of Adams would boost both Curtis and Andrew to strikeable status. And a mezuzah campaign would seal the deal (see Koheles Rabbah, end)
I think it is a mistake
Can we not feel obligated to rehabilitate antisemites?
That’s exactly what we need to do. Rehabilitate antisemitic people to denounce their hatred
For Mandani to be the mayor. It will be a much needed benefit for us all BH
How so? Because some of us will be leaving town and packing up for Israel?
I respect Eric Adams for his growth and progress that has come from within. He started as a protégé of an Anti Semitic reverend, and has followed his heart in learning and growing. He became open to the Rebbe and is enthusiastic about the Rebbbe’s ideas and plans while developing his own talents. He has overcome and utilized his dyslexia [side point- I had a friend who hired ONLY dyslexic to help in his psychology practice, because of their unique abilities in human relationships].
I watched the video referenced in the comments above. Granted, it was made a few years ago and perhaps Sliwa’s views have moderated, but I was repulsed by what I saw and heard. The guy is (was?) a bigot — and not “just” a bigot, either. He was actively working against the Orthodox Jewish community.
We all awaiting who the head of CH will endorse
Chanina were are you
I’m the person who wrote that. I’ve given it further thought and will continue to do so. Sliwa is no Mamdani, that’s obvious. His commitment to fairness and to making the city safe for all is what makes him, still, the best candidate for mayor.
I recently watched the clip of sliwa in which he condemned Jews of NY for doing such and such illegally but I don’t think he has animous towards Jews in general. He’s criticizing a small group of Jewish people for doing something he believes is illegal and they should therefore be called out on it. Putting that aside I believe he would be a great mayor and act on his promises which is to restore law and order and actually hold criminals accountable. If someone commits a crime they don’t get to be released back on street the next day… Read more »
why dont the askanim rabbonim decide who has the most chance of winning after mamdani and then we get all the mesivta and zal bochurim who many many of them unfortantely dont vote (yes you herd right)as well as all the high scool seminary girlls over 18 (many many from the girls that age dont vote either) from all the jewish communities that includes satmar modern orthdox lubavitch and all the yeshivas and girls school that exist throughout ny city and sighn them all up and them drive them in school buses provided by thier yeshiva to all vote for… Read more »
if you rearrange the letters of the name: mamdani, it will be: i mad man.
