Rabbi Levi Duchman, Head Shliach in in the United Arab Emirates, had a special meeting with New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Monday, who expressed his condolences on the recent brutal murder of the Shliach Rabbi Zvi Kogan by Islamic terrorists.
Rabbi Kogan, 28, was a Shliach in the UAE to serve the growing Jewish communities in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. He personally assisted many visitors flocking to the Gulf State since the Abraham Accords peace deal.
He was reported missing on Thursday, November 21, 2024, and his body was found on Sunday, November 24. He had been abducted and killed by terrorists, three of whom are now in custody.
The Mayor expressed his sympathy for the tragic loss and said that he stands in solidarity with the Jewish community, which he consistently supports.
The Mayor tweeted after the meeting: “In the wake of the tragic loss of Rabbi Kogan, I extended my condolences on behalf of New York City and reaffirmed our shared commitment to combating extremism and embracing peace. Together, we stand for a brighter, united future.”
Rabbi Duchman was accompanied by Rabbi Yaacov Behrman, President of the Jewish Future Alliance, and Levi Duchman’s brother Sruly Duchman.
Also present at the meeting were Menashe Shapiro, Deputy Chief of Staff & Senior Advisor to the Mayor; Fred Kreizman, Commissioner of the Community Affairs Unit; Moshe Davis, Senior Liaison for Community Affairs; Uri Fraenkel, Director of Special Projects for City Hall and Rabbi Chanina Sperlin of the Crown Heights Jewish Community.

Important event, thank you all for arranging. This also ‘would of’ been a good time to speak with mayor Eric Adams about the many homeless shelters that his administration is building in South Crown Heights since those shelters will directly and jeopardize the safety of the CH Jewish community..
I would focus on the safety of all people. He knows how hard it is to have sufficient funding of the police and to manage with the catch and release legislation. — I remember when catch and release legislation was snuck in in a proposition at an election that people from all communities didn’t no to go en masse to vote against it. Much better for the economy and safety if those buildings have apartments that are put up on the market for yuppies and some units can be bought using section 8 for those who have been on section… Read more »
IYH we should never know from this tragedy any where and the Kogan family should be comforted
I’m sorry i got sidetracked about “all residents of the area” though that’s important too and in the domain of a mayor. Still glad that Mayor Adams cares about the Kogans and the tragedies that the Jewish community and all decent people mourn. He has really turned out to receive blessings of the Rebbe to see clearly and stand up about what’s right no matter the threat of being undermined and subject to lawfare etc. Praying for him and all people who try to do what’s right to be succesful. Moshiach now.
7 new Homeless shelters for the mentally ill being developed in Crown Heights endangers Jewish lives. I’m sure it was discussed with the mayor to avoid future tragedies
