For the first time in many years, the NY State Section 8 waitlist will be open for New York City residents.
You can put yourself on the list by filling the online form only. No need to provide documents at this stage. 30,000 families will be chosen by lottery from all applicants who apply before May 28th.
If you earn less than $60,000 for a family of 4, you may be eligible, as well as other income brackets based on family size.
Once you sign up, you will be on the waitlist until a voucher becomes available. These vouchers can be used to help pay your rent in private homes or apartments so that you will never pay more than 30% of your income in rent. (Up to certain limits based on apartment size).
