New York Governor Kathy Hochul delivered the 2022 State of the State titled “Achieving the New York Dream” last week.
Her agenda included “147 bold initiatives to create a more affordable, more livable and safer New York, while opening doors to the communities and people who have historically been blocked from equal chances at success,” her office said.
“We will do the hard things — the necessary things to lift up and support New Yorkers and clear a path for them to realize the New York Dream,” she stated.
Highlights of the speech included:
The New York Housing Compact – A groundbreaking strategy to address New York’s housing crisis and build 800,000 new homes over the next decade.
Major Public Safety Initiatives and Investments – Public safety initiatives will sharpen the State’s response to gun and violent crime, provide opportunities for second chances, and prevent new crimes.
Fix New York’s Continuum of Mental Health Care – A comprehensive plan to drastically reduce the number of individuals with unmet mental health needs in New York State.
Raise the Minimum Wage Annually – A plan to help low-wage New Yorkers meet the rising cost of living by indexing New York’s minimum wage to inflation.
Cap-and-Invest Program to Combat Climate Change – A Cap-and-Invest Program will fund a sustainable and affordable future for all New Yorkers.
Make Child Care More Affordable, Accessible, and Fair – A sweeping plan to make New York’s child care system fairer, more affordable, and easier to access.
Present at the address were elected officials and representatives of Jewish communities and organizations, including Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein, New Square Mayor Izzy Spitzer, Rabbi Chanina Sperlin of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council, Rabbi Joel Rosenfeld of Bobov, Yeruchim Silber of Agudath Israel of America, Satmar activists Moshe Indig and Yoel Lefkowitz.
In a chat with the Governor following the address, Rabbi Sperlin thanked her for signing the “Foreclosure Abuse Prevention Act,” which ensures thousands of homeowners will have their rights protected in the foreclosure process throughout New York State.

I’m not even in NY. Just dumping more money on self inflicted problems.
I’m glad some people from crown heights were there. only makes sense as it appears most of her housing plan for homeless and mentally I’ll is going to be in this neighborhood….
Did she discuss the rampant black on Jew crime? Did Chanina do anything about the antisemitic hate crime against his own brother? These photo ops are infuriating while our community lives in fear of the open antisemitism and no one will say or do anything about it.
