The office of U.S. Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) issued an update regarding American citizens stranded in Israel due to it’s war with Iran.
The statement read:
As you may know, the current situation in Israel has made it increasingly challenging for U.S. citizens to depart the country. Our office is receiving regular briefings from the U.S. Department of State (DOS) and is in direct contact with the Israeli Consulate to ensure we are providing the most up-to-date information and support.
We strongly encourage all U.S. citizens in Israel to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive real-time updates from the DOS regarding travel and safety. This is where all official DOS updates regarding travel assistance will come from.
As we did following the events of October 7, our office has reopened a constituent web form for individuals or offices assisting U.S. citizens in Israel who may need help with travel arrangements. Please share this link as needed. Please only submit one form per family.
According to our latest briefing with the DOS:
- Level 4 Travel Advisory remains in effect. US citizens should not travel into Israel at this time.
- Travel by sea is currently discouraged or restricted.
- Travel by air is closed, there are no commercial of charter flights available.
- The DOS is not offering direct or indirect evacuation assistance at this time.
- U.S. citizens are advised to shelter in placeand follow Israeli government guidance, or—if they must leave—to consider the following land crossings:
Land Crossing Options:
- Jordan (via Amman): Considered a viable and relatively safe exit route. Be advised of long wait times and visa requirements. Travel guidance from DOS here.
- Egypt (via Cairo): Also a potential option, but expect delays and visa fees.
Other third-party travel options are not recommended at this time. Both the U.S. Consulate in Tel Aviv and the Embassy in Jerusalem remain closed to the public but are handling emergency passport services.
Additionally, the Israeli Consulate General in New York has also created a web form for those seeking assistance.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. Stay safe and take care.
