A delegation from Crown Heights paid a visit to New York City Comptroller Brad Lander in honor of the holiday of Purim. The delegation, which included Rabbis Shmuley Butler, Hillel Levinson, and Yaacov Behrman – founder of the Jewish Future Alliance, discussed the lessons of unity that are central to the holiday.
Rabbi Behrman highlighted the significance of the Purim tradition of wearing costumes, explaining that it is meant to prevent embarrassment for those who look different. By wearing costumes, everyone looks the same, sending the message that we are all equal.
Rabbi Butler read from the Magilla, and shared a vort from the Rebbe, and Rabbi Levinson discussed the ongoing challenges facing the Jewish community in Ukraine.
The meeting was a chance for the delegation to share the spirit of Purim with Comptroller Lander and to discuss issues of concern to the Jewish community. It also served as a reminder of the importance of unity and the need to stand together in the face of adversity.
The meeting was organized by Pinny Hikind.
