A Crown Heights delegation visited the office of NY City Comptroller Brad Lander on Purim.
Rabbi Chanina Sperlin of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council was joined by bochurim for the visit.
They read the megillah and shared hamantaschen. The Comptroller, who is Jewish, proudly showed his visitors that he could recite the blessings without assistance.
Also joining the meeting were Rabbi Hillel Levinson, his wife Mushky and their daughter Miriam. Rabbi Levinson’s parents and family, Shluchim in Kharkov, Ukraine, have escaped the war-torn country in recent days.
During the warm meeting, Rabbi Levinson spoke about his early childhood in Ukraine and his memories from that period of his life as well as concerns about the Jewish community there now. They were also joined by a staff member from the Comptroller’s office who still has family members who are unable to leave.
