New York Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein, who represents the 48th Assembly District which includes Borough Park and Midwood, is giving voice to many frustrated parents.
In a video released this week, Eichenstain is demanding that Governor Andrew Cuomo permit day and sleepover camps be allowed to open this summer after Cuomo boasted that the state “won” the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.
As reported on COLlive.com, Cuomo said this past Thursday that decision on when and whether to reopen sleepaway camps in New York will come “in about a week.” So far, he allowed for day camps statewide to open beginning June 29.
In his video, Eichenstein said: “Our children have now been home for 86 long days. That’s 86 days without their teachers, without friends, and without a proper educational and social structure. Governor Cuomo, children need normalcy and all of the positive benefits of camp now more than ever. Give kids summer!”
2 Jewish schools in Crown Heights already notified that they will not wait for a decision by Cuomo which will affect the summer experience of their students and announced that they will be opening a boys camp in Pennsylvania this summer.
VIDEO:
Open the camps and whoever wants to send their kids will do so. Whoever doesn’t isn’t being forced to.
The kids need structure asap!
He may have said that they can open on June 29, but the city has NOT issued permits yet to any of the local day camps
Just tell cuomo every morning the kids will shout blm.
The demonstrations were fine! Covid didn’t matter there!
But there weren’t any kids there…
