A newly discovered Polish newspaper clipping has surfaced, offering an unknown photo of the Rebbe as his 31st yartzeit is commemorated in New York and around the world.
The image shows a massive crowd gathered at the Warsaw train station to welcome the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, upon his arrival from Vienna. Standing alongside him was his son-in-law and successor, the Rebbe.
The headline in Polish reads, “Lubawicz Rebe w Warszawie” (“Lubavitch Rebbe in Warsaw”). It is accompanied by a photograph showing throngs of Jewish men, many wearing caps, packed tightly together.
The caption underneath reports on the Rebbe’s arrival: “Yesterday, Rabbi Schneersohn arrived in Warsaw to stay, from Vienna. Enjoying great popularity among the Jewish population, a large number of fellow believers rushed to the station to welcome the Rebbe.”
The book of Hayom Yom mentions about the Rebbe Rayatz: “5694 (תרצ״ד)—Relocates his residence to the city of Warsaw.”
This visit marks the Sixth Rebbe’s relocation to Warsaw in the early 1930s, following a period of residence in Riga, Latvia.
While there are a few photographs of the Rebbe from his early years in Europe, this image represents a previously undocumented visual record of him in public before World War II.
The newspaper’s identity and the exact date of publication are unclear. But Chassidim will surely welcome its discovery on Gimmel Tammuz.

Why are people holding on to these photos for years instead of releasing it to the public?
No one was holding it. It was just found.
There must be a digital way to make it clear, with photoshop or the like.
Photo credited to Rabbi, Mendy Fellig, Chabad of University of Miami.
He found this photo while doing research.
