New York holiday crowds stopped in their tracks to take in chainsaw-chiseling artists as they worked huge blocks of ice into a magnificent 14 foot ice menorah. Delighted passersby were dusted with little snow-like sprays from Chabad of
Midtown’s annual treat – a spectacle enjoyed by thousands at the busy crossroads of Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street in Manhattan.
Hundreds of locals, businessmen, shoppers and tourists were in attendance as Rabbi Yehoshua Metzger kindled the menorah while staff and volunteers handed out latkes, donuts and dreidels to the crowd.
Following the menorah lighting, Brocha Chana Metzger ushered guests upstairs into the Chabad center where the party continued.
Rabbi Asher Webb and members of The Midtown Kollel light a large menorah every day and distribute menorah kits to people passing by the Fifth Avenue Chabad center.
On Fifth Avenue – inundated with holiday hoopla and bright lights – the public Menorah serves as a beacon of Jewish pride. The flames of the menorah tell the story of Jewish survival. They reassure all that we will endure as “A Light unto the Nations.”

Beautiful! Great work!
