Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf exclusively told Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Wednesday that DHS was immediately suspending enrollment in Global Entry and several other Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) for all New York state residents — a dramatic move in response to the liberal state’s recently enacted sanctuary “Green Light Law.”
The sweeping order came a day after President Trump, in his State of the Union address, condemned left-wing states and local governments that “release dangerous criminal aliens to prey upon the public,” and called on Congress to pass a law establishing civil liability for sanctuary cities.
In a letter to top New York state officials obtained exclusively by Fox News, Wolf noted that the New York law prohibited Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) agencies across the state from sharing criminal records with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“In New York alone, last year ICE arrested 149 child predators, identified or rescued 105 victims of exploitation and human trafficking, arrested 230 gang members, and seized 6,487 pounds of illegal narcotics, including fentanyl and opioids,” Wolf wrote. “In the vast majority of these cases, ICE relied on New York DMV records to fulfill its mission.”
Illegal immigrants rushed to New York DMVs in large numbers after the law, which allowed them to obtain driver’s licenses or learner’s permits regardless of their immigration status, took effect last December. The law also permitted applicants to use foreign documents, including passports, to be submitted in order to obtain licenses.
The law, Wolf went on, “compromises CBP’s ability to confirm whether an individual applying for TTP membership meets program eligibility requirements.”
Because TTPs rely on states to verify individuals’ identities, New York residents “will no longer be eligible to enroll or re-enroll” in select TTPs — including Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, and FAST.
Travel is a right, not a privilege.
“The right to travel is a part of the liberty of which the citizen cannot be deprived without due process of law under the Fifth Amendment.” “The right to travel, to go from place to place as the means of transportation permit, is a natural right and subject to the rights of others.
You are correct Travel is a right however being trusted and not checked is a privilege..
Sad day for NYers who travel.
Ye, but global entry etc is a privilege.
You can still travel. But the privilege of expedited security clearance is, well, yes, a privilege. If NY lowers the bar on documentation then it’s not unreasonable for DHS to not want to accept that documentation.
TTp’s and Global entry is a Privilege to go through security and the airport Process Faster.
they are still allowed to travel !
Global entry lets you bypass security- it’s a privilege only people who enroll, pay for and interview in person can have- you can still travel and wait in line/go through regular TSA security under the under this order…
The rights remain 100%, it’s expedited services that are being Curtailed
Hakst in tchainik, and you know it. Traveling is a right. “Nexus” etc. is a privilage
Or you did read it but did not understand it.
It’s a right. You can still travel but customs now has to do a more through search to make sure we don’t let in unwanted people who can weak havoc on our way of life.
So I guess you’ll wait in line a bit longer
No one is taking away rights of travel. They are requiring the normal level of screening as they no longer rely on NYC/ protocol for ID documents
This restriction comes about at the same time as a terrible crime was perpetrated against an elderly woman by an undocumented criminal. He was free to continue remaining ‘anonymous’ after doing a prior crime because police were not allowed to give over his info to DHS due to the insane rules in place in NY which protect illegal CRIMINALS over US citizens.
The Dept of Homeland Security are serious people and are there for
us and our safety, even if the liberal politicians are dreaming high
ideas, which prevent security.
