Believe it or not, but America’s newspaper of record recommends connecting with the Rebbe…
The highly-read Sunday edition of the New York Times spoke directly to the fans of the Jets or the Giants – “two teams that have also been quite good at torturing their fans this season.”
So instead of watching another game in the “calamitous” season, the Times recommended taking a break and suggested “better ways to spend your Sunday”.
One of them, recommended by Times metro reporter Sarah Maslin Nir, was to “Make a Pilgrimage.”
Here is what she wrote:
“Visit a grave-turned-shrine of a rabbi in Queens. The Ohel is the final resting place of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, who was the leader of the Lubavitch sect of ultra-Orthodox Judaism.
“Schneerson, known as the Rebbe, died in 1994, and in the past two decades his burial site has turned into a place of pilgrimage for Jews, who trek here from around the world to write prayers on scraps of paper and toss them on the Rebbe’s grave — 24 hours a day.
“The site, little known outside the Jewish community, is in fact a nondenominational place of prayer, where any visitor is allowed to walk right in and toss a paper prayer into the mix. Perhaps there you can pray for our two lousy teams.”
Other than the wording, we couldn’t agree more.
Most defiantly not “final resting place” Chas vishalom!!!
TheRebbe accepted everyone, on every level with a smile. If one person finds strength….it could be a miracle. Hope we all can share the Rebbes kindness.
will bring one Jew closer to Yiddishkeit and HKBH then its all worth it and would make the Rebbe happy.
To all the naysayers, bad publicity is better than none…
you wish
another positive story about Chabad
From your comment it is obvious that you belong to the sect thats called “vanihiyeh b’eineinoo ka’chagovim”
Wake up. Lubavich is respected globaly…
כי ביתי בית תפילה יקרא לכל העמים…
This lady is not a FRUM yid, she has no way of appreciating what a saintly place the Ohel is. Therefore, let her be, and thank Gd we have a better understanding of how to respect holyness. I hardly expect those teams to come to the Ohel and as she put it, toss the paper, so relax everyone.
What a bunch of kvetchers. Get over your farchnyokte attitude and be happy that someone gave your sect some publicity.
Normal people don’t write or talk that way, about anyone. It was shameful and the fact that an editor oked it says more about the liberal NYTimes and attitudes than anything else. It’s not decent.
its a standard way of writing an article to first put the entire name and title… and the afterwards just write a last name
I’m not saying it’s respectful especially in this case but from their point of view it’s all about having another well written article even if us lubavitchers are a bit upset.
Really? That’s the kind of drive-by conjecture and careful carelessness that irritates, itches, than burns…
In other words, just typical New York Times.
Rude how they referred to the Rebbe by his last name, #8, but other than that, fine.
giants crushed titans haynt inem zuntig klipeh
dan likaf zechus
isn it beutifull they write nicley about the ohel
And not poorly written or degrading… It is not the words of a chosid, nor of a frummeh yid… But it is not disrespectful at all… (other than to the two lousy teams) For those who find it dsirespectful … please point out your problem with the article?
[normal] people don’t even refer to their grandparents that way. Let alone a “righteous/rabbi etc” the Nosi of our generation.
The writer is rude and obnoxious but hopefully good will come of having the Ohel mentioned.
We don’t need your Bracha or your klala
BS”D
#2 I resorted to a Mishabeach with no result
Is imminent!!!!!!
The type of wording could not be more degrading. But then again, what do you expect from the most anti-Semitic newspaper in America.
That’s just what the ohel needs, a bunch of depressed & outraged jets & giants fans tossing papers in… 😛
Bring back tebow!
