Walk into the brightly lit room on Empire Boulevard and you’ll find several women settled around the tables. Among them are an event planner, jazz band owner, writer, friendship circle director, video producer, and graphic designer.
“Our goal at CHYE is to be a resource for the community, and this workspace does that by meeting the needs of our female freelancers,” says Rabbi Yehoshua Werde, director of Crown Heights Young Entrepreneurs.
Werde arranged to open the space following the success of a similar men’s one across the street. Werde plans for the office to be a hub for entrepreneurial energy and allow people to grow their businesses.
The wifi and abundant coffee, as well as networking opportunities and low membership fee make the CHYE Women’s Workspace a great option for anyone working, visitors said.
Budding businesswoman Sara Varon was looking for more than just a workspace. Since launching her coordinating business this past summer, she missed the environment that comes with a traditional office.
“Not having a conducive workspace was one thing, but I found it harder not to have a network of minds to bounce ideas off of,” she explains. “It’s great to be able to turn around and ask someone at the next desk for input on whatever you are working on.”
Chaya Recu works as the manager of the Recu Jazz Ensemble, a jazz band. While she used to work from home, the lack of structure was becoming increasingly difficult. “I was grateful to hear about this,” she says. “It’s definitely easier to pull together all the details of each gig now that I have an office.”
Varon says that the few days she spent at the office have been the most productive since her launch because “It’s a different kind of workday when you’re in a space with other motivated and hardworking people.”
On Wednesday, a networking event will take place for women at the workspace, 543 Empire Boulevard from 1-2 p.m. Whether just starting out or already well-established, all are welcome to stop by.
