A new Tashlich pond is being built in Crown Heights, another sign of the community’s burgeoning growth in recent years.
The Tashlich pond at 770 Eastern Parkway, which the Rebbe used, is usually packed on the afternoon of Rosh Hashana, when we have the custom to visit and recite a tefillah and symbolically “cast away” our sins.
A second smaller pond, built on the porch outside the 770 women’s section a number of years ago, also gets very crowded, with the thousands of residents and guests all arriving on the same day to observe the custom.
To help make it easier for the community, a new place to observe Tashliach will be opening for this Rosh Hashana, in the heart of Crown Heights, located on Albany Avenue near Montgomery Street. This location is also helpful for the elderly and those who have a hard time walking to Eastern Parkway for that side of the neighborhood.
Sponsored by philanthropist R’ Dovid Fischer, and built by resident Mordy Hecht, the new pond will provide much needed space for locals and guests to recite Tashlich.
It’s the Rebbe’s Sh’chuna. Why would you want to go anywhere else than the one the Rebbe actually used ?
Because there’s no room and no fish?
Very nice but practically speaking not everyone can afford to live here
The Rebbe (with many Chasidim accompanying him) used to walk to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens for Tashlich.
770- the Rebbe’s shul. And yet the Rebbe encouraged other shuls to be built, and to daven in them. Not sure if this point is relevant or not…
Thank you for doing it, we will use it!!!
As a resident of Crown Heights with children, I am very appreciative of anyone who takes the money, time and effort to improve our quality of life.
Yes, tashlich at 770 with young children is not for the feint of heart. I would like to enjoy the experience with my family.
Thank you Rabbi Fischer and anyone else who made this improvment happen.
PS. Proper gratitude and Hakaras Hatov, is always right and appropriate.
Thank you Rabbi Fischer.
how are these structures any different than a fish tank?
They dug down 100 ft to the Rock bed to find water just like 770
there really are some good natured selfless Yiden out there, thank you Harav Hagoun Fischer.
Bh the community is having tremendous growth, The past few years I went to the one on crown street in a beautiful backyard of a crown heights family
private or for public use?
Thank you
Is this tashlich pond fed by live waters from an underground source?

I’m a resident of Crown Heights & this is where my in-laws live. It’s right around the corner from us & it’s delightfully convenient. Thank You Rabbi Fisher!!
They dug down 100 feet to connect to a natural source of water.
In the first photo you can see the red truck that has the well drilling rig. Those pipes are placed vertically in the well to hold it open.
As you said the one by 770 is very crowded so this is extremely helpful!
