Jews at American University in Washington, DC, will soon find themselves much closer to Chabad.
Rabbi Yehoshua and Esti Hecht are the new Shluchim to the American University Area in the northwest part of the city, which includes the campus of American University and adjoining neighborhoods.
They were appointed by Rabbi Levi Shemtov, senior shliach to Washington, DC and Executive Vice President of American Friends of Lubavitch (Chabad).
“We wish them fulfillment of all the Rebbe’s brochos, and success in all the areas of their shlichus, materially and spiritually,” Rabbi Shemtov said in a statement.
In addition to bolstering outreach efforts to the families and young professionals in their area, the Hechts will now be bringing the impact of Chabad-Lubavitch in Washington, DC, to a new level, Rabbi Shemtov said.
Chabad in Washington is known for national and international events and programs which have assisted Chabad across the US and around the world. Perhaps lesser-known are the growing institutions serving the unique Jewish community of the U.S. capital.
They include “The Shul of the Nation’s Capital” at the Lubavitch Center in Dupont Circle and the expansion of activities sponsored by American Friends of Lubavitch at The George Washington University, directed by Rabbi Yudi and Rivky Steiner whose work helped transform Jewish life on that campus.
The Hechts can be reached at [email protected].
