Rabbi Yossi and Goldie Abenson (nee Marasow) will be joining the Rebbe’s Shluchim in S. Louis, Missouri, where they will be opening the first Chabad center in the Central West End neighborhood.
S. Louis’s Central West End is a growing area, home to the nationally acclaimed Barnes Jewish Hospital and thousands of Jewish young professionals, young families and graduate students, studying in universities throughout the city.
Yossi, originally from Manchester, England, and his wife, Goldie, from Montreal, Canada, have been appointed by Chabad of Greater S Louis’s Rabbi Yosef Landa, who is marking, along with Rebbetzin Shiffy Landa, over 35 years in the city.
Alongside their work in the CWE, the Abensons will be establishing the S Louis-wide chapter of Chabad Young Professionals, as well as assuming the leadership of JGrads, Chabad of WashU’s graduate student program, under the direction and guidance of Rabbi Hershey and Chana R. Novack of Chabad on Campus at Washington University.
According to Rabbi Yossi Abenson, “building a community in a place so ripe for growth comes with great responsibility and satisfaction simultaneously. We are confident that with the Rebbe’s Brochos, we will be successful.”
“In a city which is home to an estimated 12,000 Jewish young professionals and graduate students, the opportunity is immense,” says Goldie Abenson. “The people we’ve met thus far are very enthusiastic, and we can’t wait to get started!”
