The Jewish community in South Florida continues to grow by leaps and bounds. One example of that is the appointment of Chabad Shluchim to solely cater to the needs of Jewish youth in the South Broward area.
Located in southeastern Florida, Broward County is the 17th-most populous county in the United States. “South Broward has one of the most Jewish teens per capita compared to most areas in the U.S.” Rabbi Levi Tennenhaus told COLlive.com.
Rabbi Tennenhaus and his wife Dassy Tennenhaus have been running all youth programs at Chabad of South Broward which is directed by this father Rabbi Rephael Tennenhaus.
The CTeens program catering to Jewish teens in Aventura, Hollywood and Hallandale has been running for over 10 years and is hailed as the largest chapter of CTeen – the Chabad Teen Network. “We’ve had over 100 teens on average join every year,” says Rabbi Levi Tennenhaus.
He said that with the growth of all activities – he and his wife also direct the Friendship Circle of South Broward serving people with special needs – it was time to bring Shluchim solely for this demographic.
They new Shluchim are Rabbi Yossi and Leah Lifshitz who will be focusing primarily on CTeen – Teens Alive Florida extended programming as well as the Hebrew school. They have already 4 weekly programs planned for teens and they are launching CTeen Junior for 7th graders.
Leah (nee Dworcan from Montreal, Canada) has been running administration for the CTeen chapter for the last 5 years. “She has a head-start and experience,” said Rabbi Levi. He said her and her husband’s commitment and energy will bring to the continued success of teen programming.
