A new chapter in the growth of Chabad Centers of Greater New Haven has unfolded with the announcement of the opening of the Chabad Jewish Center of Oxford. This marks the ninth Chabad center in the region and promises to bring an infusion of Jewish life to the towns of Oxford, Southbury, Middlebury, Beacon Falls, and Seymour.
Under the leadership of Rabbi Shmaya and Hadassa Hecht, the Chabad Jewish Center of Oxford aims to create a welcoming Jewish community for individuals of all ages and levels of observance. The center’s mission is deeply rooted in the core values of Chabad-Lubavitch emphasizing a commitment to Jewish identity, tradition, and education.
Rabbi Hecht was brought up on Shlichus in nearby Orange, CT where his parents Rabbi Sheya and Bluma Hecht run Chabad Centers of Greater New Haven. He received his Semicha from Central Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch and has worked with many Shluchim around the world bringing Yiddishkeit to communities, including Hanoi, Vietnam; Rio De Janeiro, Brazil; Edinburgh, Scotland and S. Marten.
Mrs. Hecht was born and educated in Toronto, ON and studied in Tsfas, Israel. With many years of experience working with local Hebrew Schools in Toronto as well as teaching in Chabad Schools in Toronto and Crown Heights, she looks forward to bringing her passion for education to the community.
“We are thrilled to become part of the Chabad Centers of Greater New Haven family of Shluchim and contribute to the growth of Jewish life in the community,” shared Rabbi and Mrs. Hecht. “We hope to inspire individuals and give people the opportunity to experience Yiddishkeit in a warm and nurturing environment.”
The Chabad Jewish Center of Oxford will host a range of programs and activities tailored to meet the diverse needs of the community. These offerings will include Shabbos and holiday celebrations, Hebrew school for children, adult education classes, cultural events and social gatherings. Local residents are enthusiastic about the opening of the Chabad Jewish Center of Oxford, recognizing it as an important addition to the area’s spiritual and cultural landscape. The center’s dedication to Jewish identity and experience is expected to have a profound impact on Jewish life in Oxford and surrounding towns.
Rabbi and Mrs. Hecht have been appointed by Rabbi Sheya Hecht, Head Shliach to New Haven County.
