New Shluchim to Liverpool

Chabad on Campus UK is proud to announce the opening of a new Chabad Lubavitch House serving Jewish students at Liverpool universities.

In the next academic term, Rabbi Shmuli Brown and family will open their home as a ‘home away from home’ for Jewish students from all backgrounds, as well as offering a full program of exciting events, including weekly Friday night Shabbat dinners, educational classes and social programs.

Jewish life at Liverpool University has grown in recent years and there are currently many Jewish students.

This is partly due to major investments by Liverpool University in recent years, making it a more attractive place to study and becoming recognized as a centre of excellence in many disciplines, including engineering, medicine, dentistry, business and law.

This development follows the expansion of five Chabad centers on campuses across the UK in less than two years, including Edinburgh, Bristol, Nottingham, Imperial College and South London campuses.

The establishment of Chabad at Liverpool University makes Chabad on campus one of the largest permanent providers of Jewish life on campus in the UK, with currently eleven permanent centers serving Jewish students all year round with all their Jewish needs.

The major growth of Chabad on campus UK is made possible due to the generous support and partnership of Oxford alumnus and Jewish communal philanthropist Mr. David Slager.

Rabbi Eli Brackman, chairman of Chabad on Campus UK, explained that the ‘rapid expansion of Chabad on campus UK over the last few years reflects the urgent need to support Jewish students on campus at a time when they are facing unprecedented challenges and rising assimilation.’

Rabbi and Mrs. Brown will be working in conjunction with Lubavitch Liverpool’s Rabbi Avremi Kievman. “This is an excellent appointment, and Golda and I welcome warmly Rabbi and Mrs. Brown to the team of Lubavitch in Liverpool,” said Rabbi Kievman, director of Lubavitch Liverpool for the past 17 years.

Rabbi Yeremiyah Angyalfi, executive board member of Lubavitch UK said, “this is a historic development, as students will now have the benefit of a rabbi and his wife who are permanently on campus for the students the whole year round, something which is breaking news in Liverpool’s history.”
