In a moving celebration held on Sunday, June 29, 2025 coinciding with Gimmel Tamuz, the 31st Yahrzeit of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Chabad Lubavitch of Southwest Florida, under the leadership of Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz and Shani Silver, officially welcomed new Shluchim to serve the growing Israeli population in the region.
The community gathered at the Katz family’s new residence in Fort Myers to greet Rabbi Shalom and Devorie Katz, along with their young daughter Sheina (1.5 years old), who have arrived from Israel to begin their mission of outreach, education, and spiritual support.
The event marked a significant step forward in fulfilling the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s vision of reaching every Jew with love, warmth, and purpose. In light of ongoing challenges and conflict in Israel, the Katz family’s arrival resonates as both timely and deeply meaningful.
A delicious buffet dinner was enjoyed by community members in an atmosphere of joy and unity. Men were invited to put on Tefillin, continuing the Rebbe’s worldwide Tefillin campaign.
In a display of true community spirit, guests helped unload the family’s moving truck, embodying the values of support and solidarity. A Mezuzah affixing ceremony brought spiritual protection and blessing to the new home, with full participation from the crowd.
“This was more than a welcome party it was a powerful moment of communal connection and commitment to Jewish continuity,” said Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz, Director of Chabad of Southwest Florida. “Especially on Gimmel Tamuz, the Rebbe’s legacy comes alive when we grow, build, and stand united.”
The Katz family will focus on expanding Jewish life and services for the local and visiting Israeli population throughout Southwest Florida.
