New Shluchim to Illinois

Rabbi Mendel and Mushka Shmotkin (nee Moscowitz) are starting Chabad for young families in Northbrook, Illinois.

The Village of Northbrook is home to many Jews with some estimates as high as 11,000 Jewish residents. With its growing population of young families and professionals, Northbrook offers a natural setting for a vibrant and expanding Jewish community.

As the community in Northbrook continues to grow, so does the need for expanded Jewish infrastructure and programming, so that every Jew has the opportunity to experience authentic Jewish life.

In particular, there is an increasing population of young families moving from the city to Northbrook in search of a quieter, more family-centered life, along with thousands of Jewish businesspeople who work in and pass through the area each day. Many of these Jews are not yet connected to any Jewish framework. The Shmotkins are joining the team to help bring Yiddishkeit to so many more Jews who have not yet been impacted by Chabad.

They will provide for the Jews of Northbrook through new programs for young families, professionals and youth.
